Went to the track last night and went up against newer ss 6spd marrow and to my suprise he only beat me by 1 tenth in the 1/4 I ran 14.4 @ 97mph with a horrible reaction .799 and mind u this is at 6000ft above water and my stang is all stock except for the super 40 flowmasters which by the way sound sweeter than any of the flows. LS1 can be taken down by the mach 1 if I came that close. The only thing i give to the ls1 is it top end power they can catch up pretty quick.

That is pretty impressive!! I have a dual setup on my truck (F-150) with that same muff. Sounds a lot like my stang and thats w/out the offroad h-pipe. Do you have a 5-speed or an auto?

i found the opposite of your experience. when my 03 gt was stock, i pulled a couple of ls1's at the higher end, SS's and T/A's. for better shifting you should get a pro 5.0 shifter, that could take of as much as 1/10th of a second on your time! totally worth the 130$ bucks for it. if that was your first run in the car, that sounds like a nice run. please tell me you had trac off? im sure you did but i cant help but think....

ls1 1/4 mile

and ls1 can go 13.4 1/4 stock. Ofcourse if you have a perfect run. and it is a good track. An ls1's bottom end sucks, its all up top for them. An ss impala LT1 will smoke and ls1 off the line. But anyways I still love the stang no matter what.

is this a joke thread? ive been a stang owner for 1year now..and the only way a gt could beat a ls1 is 2 ways..supercharger, or a bad driver..and thats a stock ls1..give me a break..ls1 is ALL ontop..they trap 106-108mph stock and 111-114mph with full exhaust..headers,ypipe,catback..ive owned 2 previous ls1's before this stang.. a 98 z28 vert and a 99 ss..dont tell me crap about a gt and a ls1..i have xpipe, catback.and 3.73s, and consider myself a good driver, i can take my buddys ls1 out of the hole but uptop, its over..he whips past me around 80mph like i hit reverse..some ls1's go 14s in the quarter, and some go high 12's..its a hard car to drive, launchin is everything..my friend chris had a 02 ws6, he was getting 2.5 60ft's and trapping 109.1mph at like 14 something..bone stock

it's all about the driver. if there were equal drivers we all know that wouldn't happen. so just be happy for him, since he beat one

btw - if anyone can host a vid please get ahold of me, cause i have a beautuful vid i'd like to post (has a little something to do with a 00 SS)

whatever the case here yeah I'm glad he was so narrowly beat by an SS, but don't expect to get so lucky all on the street, or every time. When I was running a 13.7 (on street tires w/ a 2.01 0-60) I was barely able to pull a bone stock 6 speed Z28 LS1 one when I happend to hook up good.

Hate to admit it but he is right. Most GT's and Cobra will take an LS1 right away, but they reel you in past the 1/8th mile and will surprise you when they beat you from the 1/8th through the 1/4. It is like that every time.

Just some LS1 facts:

98-00 WS6 1/4 mile-13.7-13.2 stock.

98-00 SS 1/4 mile-13.5-12.9999 stock.

01-02 had better motors came with the LS6 stuff.

WS6 1/4 mile 13.2-12.8 stock

SS 1/4 13.2-12.7 Stock

I have seen this all in person.

All 98-02 LS1 put out the same HP and all are capable of the same performance. The LS6 intake on 01-02 cars did nothing since the cam profile changed. The only things that did anythig were the SLP OEM options exhaust 1998-2002 and Lid w/filter 2002.

1998-1999 LS1 intake w/ DW steel headers, decent cam
2000 LS1 Intake w/ high flow cast manifolds, nice cam
2001-2002 LS6 intake w/ high flow cast manifolds, truck cam

Guys these cars were made by GM not God. 90% of LS1's are very close to stock and 90% of near stock LS1's run mid to high 13's. Not to mention that most LS1 owners think there cars run on ego they are very easy to out drive.

Dude i'm just telling you what i seen. I have a lot of friends with LS1s i know what those cars can do. Yes a lot people that get them can't drive them. Don't get these guys hopes up to get smoked but a stock LS1. After they get smoked, they'll come on here saying,"Yea the LS1 pulled cars on me, he had a blower or something." Those cars are very fast out the factory but the 03/04 cobra is too.

There is a big difference in the 01+ cars and the earlier ones. I have owned both. 99 Z28 auto dynoed 280rwhp and ran a best of 13.80 @ 100.80mph. 01 WS6 6 speed 100% stock ran 13.41 @ 109.46 on a 2.3 60'. That was the only run I have in so far on the car.

I absolutely hate these threads. Yes the LS1 in general is faster. The hp is obviously there hence the 107-109 mph trap speeds. So what. It doesnt mean that a GT can't beat an LS1. The motor is what makes an SS or WS6 what it is and thats it. Some people talk like the LS1 is an untouchable engine. Thats irritating and juvenille. Those extra 65 cubes help alot 346 vs 281. Hmmmm tell me which one you think would be faster. Even though there are small displacement V8's putting well over 300 hp in the Mercedes and BMWs. Damn Ford with there little modulars. But I still love my GT over an LS1 any day and wouldn't cower from a race with an LS1. It's more then a hp race with any vehicle. I've seen extended cab 6 cylinder rangers beat 350 Chevy pickups before. To many variables to say an LT1, LS1, or Chevy 350 will win even against a Pinto or Gremlin.

That's true...I ran my 2002 Camaro Z28 6-speed to a 13.4@105 with a 2.1 60-foot time stock. I haven't taken the GT to the track yet and I probably won't unless I add a supercharger or something. I want to run faster than the Z28 did Won't happen without a power adder though.

The BS is strong throughout this thread.

Stock LS1's can run mid (and sometimes low) 13's BONE stock. But with a bad driver, they're lowly 14 second cars just like us. My g/f drives an 02 SS, and she runs anywhere from mid 13's to mid 14's

Also, it doesn't take a S/C to beat an LS1 . Gears, DR's, exhaust, tune, and a driver. Then you just go from there

I can beat mild ls1's in the 8th mile all day, trans ams, z28, and ss but they were pulling on me at the end. If it were a quarter they probably walk slowly by. Most likely a bad driver, there at every track.
