I thought I would post this, since many times I've gotten info from this board I couldn't find anywhere else. give a little back I guess. I put a new cat back on my '89 lx hatch today. The old system was 2 chamber flows, 2 1/2" flowmaster tailpipes. I was never really happy with the way it sounded, plus, the passenger side flowtube had been cut about an inch shorter and welded at some point. which led to a real PITA when putting the tailpipes back on (I had turndowns for a long time). so I ordered a mac catback kit, 2 1/2" pipe with 3 1/2" tips. I paid about $320 for it. the fit and finish was excellent, it comes with all hardware needed. the think I like most about it is that it uses flanges that you can unbolt, to hold the pipes together. so if you need to drop your gas tank, you don't have to cut the tailpipes off. it takes most of the pain out of working with exhaust, especially if you're doing it with the car on stands like me. and the sound...in my opinion, much better. it has the same tone as the flowmasters, but louder and more aggressive. much louder at idle. granted, I never had 3 1/2" tailipipes with the flows, so I don't know how that would sound. probably pretty good. the car has gone from being "loud" to being "obnoxiously loud" which in my book, is perfect. :SNSign:

Though exhaust is a totally personal thing, I have to agree with you. I LOVE the way the MAC catback sounds (with aftermarket catted H and shorties) on the '94. I have 2 chambers on the '88 and it's not nearly as striking to me (I like a lower growl - the 2 chambers sound a little more high pitched to my ear).

Glad to hear you like it so well.

Last time I bought exhaust, I decided on Mac instead of Flowmaster. I looked and looked and looked, and the only system I could find had the 3.5" tailpipes, and I really wanted 2.5" tailpipes. Once again, I ended up with flows.

dkeiser1989, what H or X are you using? Catted or not? I had to put a catted H on mine for emissions purposes and it's way too quite (in my opinion, my wife differs) and I've been on a several month quest for just the right muffler. I don't want to start buying mufflers just to try out since that can get expensive real quick.

I've almost decided on the MACs but I don't know that they will be that much louder than the Flows in my case.

ok, to answer a few questions...the part number is TK7993. I bought it on ebay from a seller named petes-mustang-parts, who I would also recommend. JChalfan, where were you looking? on their website, mac has a kit like the one you wanted (TK8725) although they only list it for a gt. I would try to find it on ebay though, as you'll save some cash. as for my h pipe, it's an ancient off road h pipe, 2 1/2", no cats. shorty headers as well. I've owned this car since '98, and this is the fourth set of mufflers I've had on it, and I like them the best by far.

Seriously though, I've got some on mine, originally done as a joke because everybody thought it was going to be outrageous.

They're actually everything I'd ever hoped a muffler could be. They sound good at idle but you can sit in the car without getting a headache, they don't drone like hell at some tone that buzz your teeth out of your head, and when you get on the throttle they rip real nice

Has anyone ever used the mac pro dump kit? I really like the look of having no tail pipes , plus it saves some weight. I just didnt know if it would be tolerable inside ( i have a gutted interior coated in rhino lining). I want my car to be as loud as possible without splitting my skull.

For me they were almost everything they could be. I put one on my 95 F-150 5.0 and it only lasted about 20,000 miles before it rusted completely through where the welds were. I now have a FM on it and that will probably still be on it in 100,000 miles.

On my truck it sounded quite like a Bay Bilt boat. No biggie, it was only 20 bucks. My buddy spent over $600 on his Loudmouth exhaust for his C-5 and it sounded the same way. He took it off after a week and now he's all ticked off because they won't take it back.

Dude! Why didn't you ask me this yesterday!! Haha.
I actually had an 86 that finally took too many deer hits, so I found an 85 shell and moved everything over. I took some pics with my friends digi during the process, and meant to get them off his camera 2 days ago when I was over there and forgot all about it!
I'll try to get them this weekend and post them up, it's not pretty, but it will be this spring

I had Flowmasters, and Macs and now Spintechs. I have always been an advocate for Mac stuff even when everyone put them down. They make cheap, decent parts that sound good. I have run their shorties, LTs, catted H, Prochamber, and catback, as well as CAI. Definately sounded great and I thought the fitment was fine!

Oh, don't get me wrong! It still sounds like a boat, just a lot quieter. Apparently FM thinks the SUV/Truck muffler belongs on the American Thunder F-150 exhaust system.

Well after much delay I finally managed to get those pictures. They're all primarily of the job done though, there really isn't a good one of the car itself. The first pictures were taken after the first half of the job was done. But if you like to see gory pictures of Capris here you go!

I hit a deer with my 86 a while ago, and found an 85 shell for $200. The plan was to cut off the nose of the 85 to mount on the 86. Shortly after removing the core support, fenders, etc. etc. from the 85, the 86 hits deer #2, and I decide I'm better of using all of the 85 and not just the nose.

Apparently you can't link to pictures that are in your Google album, owhell.
So here's the link to the album for anybody who wanted to peek.
