I think it goes on the driver's side pipe. I didn't use mine.

You don't have to use it if you don't want to.

Yes, use it.
Driver's side leg joint against the driver's side exhaust manifold is where it goes.

Look at the studs on the driver's side manifold. They have a shoulder. Some Mac pipes won't make a seal if the flange bottoms out on the shoulders. You can either replace the studs with shoulderless ones, or put that small pipe piece in the Mac "leg" so it fills in the gap and you can get a good seal without the flange bottoming out on the shoulders of the studs.

You should be able to see the shoulders in the pic below.

Timeless2, Propellerhead. Thanks for your help you were both right on the money. I had to use the adapter piece. Just came in from getting it installed. Once I started fitting it up I saw that the drivers side exhaust manifold studs were stepped and that with out the adapter I was going to bottom out the nuts before it tightened up. This is really a Nice Piece. Great Fit. No leaks and easy to install. I scotch brighted all the ball ends and sockets. Cleaned up all the burrs on the ball ends. I used the flange gasket that Mac included with the pipe because the original gasket wouldn’t work because of the raised area at the inside of the original gasket. I gave the flange gasket 5 good coats of Permatex Copper sealant I also coated all the ball ends with 3 good coats. I also coated the adapter piece on both sides with it. It made a good lubricant when I was tightening it up. The 3 piece design was alot easier to deal with than my previous pipe. It had a slip joint, I could never get it to fit right and I always had an exhaust leak. Finally a project that went smooth. Thanks again for your help.

I just put my h pipe on yesterday too. Getting the pipe all lined up and tightened was a challenge but no leaks so far. Now i just need a cat back.

Good job! I didn't need to use it on mine as it sealed just fine and have no leaks 18 months later.
