MACH 1 HOOD ADVICE

This is my first post and I need some advice. Seems like this is the place to go for it, and MUCH appreciated. My next mod Ide like to do is purchase a Mach 1 hood for my 03 GT. Has anyone done this mod, and where was the best place to purchase? I love the Mach 1 hood and dont like my fake plastic scoop insert that does nothing but hold water and piss me off when I wash my car. Im sure you all know what Im talking about there. Also has anyone removed that stock honeycomb insert? Thanks for all the info to come.

i know what you are taking about. i took a look at that kit. ill probably do it soon, but i know what you mean about the stock hood scope+water retaining. annoying. problem wiht it was when i went to buy it, it was 1,000 bucks. way too fing much. if you DO hook it up, lemme know what you think. only thing i have heard so far, is that the hood buldges excessively.

My best guess

I considered the shaker hood assembly for my 2000GT when it first came out. Please correct me if I am wrong, but I believe FORD worked with this company in their "skunkworks" dept to develop a factory warranteed setup. Check this out, it may help you. This project may have evolved into the Mach. I am still learning about mine. But I read this article quite a while back, and seeing a Mach for the first time made me remember it.

Yep, the 2003 and 2004 Mach 1 shaker is based off the CDC (Classic Design Concepts) kit. CDC had (and still is) selling for the GT. Ford tweaked it up a bit and improved it, by the time it went to the factory for the 2003 and 2004 Mach 1. Since then, CDC has folded back into its own kit, the improvements Ford made.

What he said! If I owned a GT and wanted to do the Mach 1 conversion, I would go with the Kar Kraft kit over the CDC kit, hands down!

I look my scoop off temporarily to change out the insert for one from CC Mustang.

It isn't all that difficult. Just remove the heat pad under the hood by prying out the many plastic clips. I used a flat bar/nail puller. With that off, you will see like seven (+/-) nuts which hold the scoop onto the hood. Just take those off. With the scoop off, you can easily remove the grill insert.

Just be warned if you plan on leaving the grill insert off (and not replace it with something else). You will be leaving one of the attachment holes in the hood exposed. It will be front and center, and therefore very visible. Also, the interior of the scoop isn't very pretty.

Yeah, me too. The other factor in the Kar Kraft conversion is that the Mach 1 hood is a nice looking cowled hood, wayyyyyy better looking than a GT hood with the plastic applique to do the CDC conversion.

I have done this mod. Kar Kraft offers an awesome shaker kit that is made from all oem parts to fit the shaker to the 2V. Very easy to install. You only need to purchase the mach1 hood and get it painted from there.

That is the one, rather major, unknown.

Would you be willing to share with us, just how much the hood and the painting cost?

what other parts are needed?

in my research, here's what i've found:
1. kar kraft shaker kit
2. mach 1 hood
3. hood liner
4. hood ring (plastic part, mounts on underside of hood around the hole) what's this part called?
5. mach 1 air filter housing (or you have to cut up your GT housing)

anyone who's done this mod have anthing else to add?

Are you re-using any older parts, or are you going fully new?

If fully new, you will also need things like the clips to hold the hood liner to the bottom of the hood, hinges for the hood, and the strike plate for the latch.

I can't remember where, but I believe I saw the Mach 1 hood for around $850.00... At any rate, it is definitely not a cheap mod to do any way you look at it. - Mega
