hey guys i am thinking about getting my hands on a mach 1000. i curentlly have one in my 03 GT and want to put one in the 91 GT. i know everyone is going to say just get aftermarket but i like the stock look of the mach1000. now i only want to use the headunit, subs, and amps. i dont need to do the speakers because i already replaced them. will this fit? is there anything i should know before i buy this system? i figure as long as the headunit will fit in the dash i will be alright.

break out a ruler and measure it. you already answered your own question and now you sound like you are fishing for reassurance. not to sound like an ass, but like you stated earlier, everyone is going to suggest you go aftermarket.

My main concern is where to put the huge amp tray and speaker box in a hatchback without it looking gaudy.

And getting the wiring figured out. The amps could come off the enclosure and be mounted elsewhere though. It's just a matter of finding a location for them.

Yup,

There is a way to integrate the head unit only with aftermarket components. I'm trying to figure this out now on my own. The Mach 460 system is designed to be used as a complete system, but Ford did put the same radio in other cars in non-Mach form. They call it the CD-6 and it looks identical. Perhaps one of those with a custom wiring harness is the way for you to go. That way you can use mostly aftermarket parts but with the head unit you like.

I want to do this in my fox since I also have it in my '03 GT and like it and the 6-disk in dash changer.
