okay guys, I've done a lot of reading on the info about going from a mach 460 system to mach 1k... but I have a question that I just canNOT find, so here goes:

I have a 2001 mustang conv. (the only year with the 6-disc and no option for the 1000) with a 460 6-disc. I am looking at buying a mach 1000 headunit along with the extra subs and amps to put in my trunk. My question is do the amps and subs plug directly into the radio, or is there a plug in the trunk that my 2001 won't have?

The guy said he just unplugged it from his trunk and that's all he knows. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

:nice:

edit: btw, the head-unit for the mach 1k is from a 2004 which had the different connections for sirius possibility. I don't care about satellite, but will it impede on the compatibility with my existing 460 connections?

I'm only paying a couple hundred bucks for the system, and I really like the factory look. A lot of people said that if you get the 1000, the h/u makes a big difference, so that's why I'm looking at doing that too.

Anyways, it includes all the new 1000 gear and h/u, but not the connection from the h/u to the trunk. What connection is that, and is that something I could pick up at radioshack for a couple bucks?

thanks a lot guys! :nice:

I believe you can buy the harness off ebay. do an ebay search for Mach 1000. The Mach 1000 amps and sub can be piggybacked off of the signal for the rear Mach 460 amps IIRC.

I've entertained that idea, in fact if I were to do that, I probably would have just added an aftermarket sub and/or amp, but i really like the factory integration and look (yes, even in the trunk)

anyways, I found a post of a guy who somehow did it located here:
http://www.modularfords.com/forums/f94/another-mach-1000-upgrade-question-60020-2.html

if you read that, it says that the mach 1000 h/u makes tons of difference compared to the 460 h/u and he highly recommends it. I think that's one of the main reasons a lot of people who upgrade their 460's are always dissatisfied.

So I'm still looking to find out what wiring I need to get to plug the 04 subs/amps into my 01 car, and if it's missing a couple of harnesses (if so, then how much), and lastly, if the 04 headunit is compatible with my 01 460 system (not confirmed yet either way, but leaning towards yes?)

side note: thanks everyone helpin me out here :nice:
