Mach 460 as a stand-alone radio system in other vehicle?

I've been tossing the idea around of putting a Mach 460 system into my Fox Mustang.

Reason being i like the idea of an in-dash 6-disk changer.

Yes i know i could just buy an aftermarket setup but my question here is how can i make the 460 operate as a seperate system? Do i need the amp tray in the rear deck area? What about speakers? Aren't the Mach's 8 speakers a weird ohm rating?

Well there is the Mach 460 and the Mach 1000. The 1000 has the woofer box, the 460 doesn't. The 460 just has a small amp tray with just 3 amps on it.

I have the Mach 460 in my GT and like it. I beleive it uses 8 speakers in that setup? (1 in door, 1 in pod by side mirrors and 2?? in rear deck on each side??)

In the fox, there are locations for 6 speakers total. I was planning on using 6 fox-specific speakers and wiring the 460 head unit to run the speakers without amps.

If that can't be done, there are other Ford vehicles that use the CD-6, but in non-Mach (less wattage i assume) form that maybe I could perhaps use?


Again, reason i want to do this is I like a 6-disk in dash changer, but I don't want to spend $1000 on an aftermarket unit. I am not a serious audiophile that needs a 2500watt system either. I just want a decent system. Most of the time when i drive around, the radio is low anyway so i can listen to the exhaust.

The Mach 460 system uses in front tweeter/midrange speakers in the pods high on the doors, along with 6x8 woofers lower in the doors. The rear has the same tweeter and woofer setup mounted in the box attached to the rear deck, for a total of 8 speakers.

If you just want to use the cd changer, they can be had new for $400-$450. I'm not sure if that includes the wiring pigtail. If you can get that, then using a JL audio cleansweep or similar signal processor from alpine, etc. will let you use the cd changer with aftermarket amplifiers and has inputs for an ipod or sat radio.

I misunderstood what you meant. I thought you were talking about the Mach 1000's subwoofer enclosure.
