Well, the MACH 460 stereo held on for 10 delicious years but it seems that it may have finally bit it. I get the dreaded "CD Error" message on my LCD screen when I try to use the CD function of my stereo. Nothing seems to be able to clear the error. I've tried pushing all the buttons, and nothing works. I've also tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it to no avail.

Is it toast? If so, any upgrade suggestions (pictures help)? I would be looking at a double din unit probably without navigation.

Yes, I know I can post this in the audio section but there just isn't much traffic there.

Thanks

It's definitely a finicky unit. I've been having trouble with mine since at least 2009 and haven't risked putting a CD in it since late 2010. Even with no CDs in it I still get the odd, random "CD Error" message on the screen at start-up, without touching a button or control.

I've had my '460 apart to do some investigating and, aside from some questionably loose belts associated with loading and unloading CDs (e.g. see my post(s) here) I never really saw anything that stood out as being definitely, obviously "wrong" in there. Whatever it is it's subtle.

The mechanism is diabolically complex if you've ever seen it in action sans covers. Finding the exact problem without access to factory schematics could well be impossible. The apparent lack of a definitive "google" answer to this aggravating problem after all these years proves this.

I might take mine out and apart again to have a go at the limit switches and rollers (etc) with contact cleaner just for sh1ts and giggles but with no expectation of actually fixing it.

In short, I suspect when a '460 does this it's "toast", at least until someone actually finds and posts a proper fix...
