I have a 00gt with the 460 system and the single cd player. Is it worth it to upgrade to the factory 6 cd system or go with something aftermarket. On either changeout, do I need the later year plastic cover?. Thanks.
from what i learned with my car, if you decide to change anything in the system you have to change it all. i know personally if you change the head unit to aftermarket the rear speakers wont work hardly at all. and its also trickey switching around for more factory stuff. so you might want to either leave it all alone or wait untill you save up and change it all out.
It appears your right. I was looking on line for a later model mach 460 and a reply I recieved from an outfit selling the radio said it would not work. If the same manufacturer built both 00 thru 04 units, I thought a changeout would be a no brainer. I quess I was wrong.
Yeah, there are different versions of the 460 depending on the year. It would probably be easier for you to get a aftermarket head unit and a correct harness to bypass the 460 amps.
Or you could get lucky and find a direct replacement for your radio. I wouldn't pay no more than $50 for a used one though. Anything above that would be better spent on a nice aftermarket radio like a Alpine.
I reccommend picking up an aftermarket deck and using the Metra harness part # 70-5511 I believe. This allows for the intergration of the factory amp. Your rear speaker WILL work fine. I just did the install in the exact car about a week ago. Also installed two 10 inch JL W3s.
