Mach 460 sound system?

I have a 94 with the Maach 460 system.

I have a aftermarket head unit wich works great. I went to place the 5"x7" speakers in the front doors and noticed I was only getting bass from the speaker. Is this because a stock cross over? Are these built in the stock amps? If not or so do you know where the drivers side amp is located? My goal is to bybass the crosover all together?

I am pretty sure.....I even had trouble installing my head unit. I ended up installing all new speakers and running an external amp.

There are three amps in the Mach460 and yes the high/low pass filters (crossovers) are built in. The amp for the high pass filters powers all 4 tweeter speakers front and rear. It is located behind and below the stock head unit mounted to the trans tunnel area. The other two amps that you can see mounted under the rear dash in the trunk power the stock 5"x7" speakers. They supply the low pass filter to the 5x7s. One amp is for the two 5x7s in the doors and the other amp is for the 5x7s in the rear dash.
Easiest thing for you to do is route another set of speaker wire from your after market head unit to the doors. Leave the stock connector unplugged. This will allow you to keep the stock tweeter usable as well. I ended up removing the stock amps and rear speaker box and using the stock wire harness for my new speakers in the stock locations. It was a major PITA though.

The 5x7 speakers in the doors and the speaker tray in the back are special speakers - they serve up the midrange AND the bass - no special subwoofer required. You cannot simply replace them with a standard 5x7 speaker, you MUST use a replacement Mach 460 speaker or rip out the factory system entirely.

There is a harness adaptor you can get that will let you plug in any aftermarket head unit into the Mach 460 system. Works great on my Mach 460.

Once you have the model number (listed in the thread) you should be able to order it from any place that installs car stereos. Make sure you get the right one - there's a 94-98 harness and a 99-04 harness. Happened to me, and I still have the 99-04 harness lying around somewhere.

I use an adapter I got from Crutchfield. It allows me to continue running the entire Mach 460 system and my entire aftermarket setup at the same time (Qform, bazoookas, 7" 3ways, tweeters, amps etc, etc,. Below is there website. Call them there tech folks are excellent.

when i first bought my car with the mach 460, the cd changer was shot and the front 2 5x7's were blown, so i bout an alpine head unit and pioneer 5x7's for the doors. if i turn the stereo up to about 10 of 30 for the volume, the front 5x7's lose like 1/2 their volume and all of the bass power they were once carrying. I am told that this is because of a difference in ampedance from stock to aftermarket speakers in the ystem. what am i to do to fix this except for bypassing all of the subs and stock wiring??? should i just replace them with stock replacements, or will i be disappointed with a drop in sound quality out of these speakers? if they wont sound crappy compared to my eplacements, where can i find these speakers?

The literature I received from Ford said the 5x7s in the front doors are bass only and the sail speakers (what everyone incorrectly calls tweeters) are actually mids and highs.
