ok, i have a buddy with an 04, he had a line converter installed, they put it behind the headunit instead of off the back amps, please let me know if this is right or wrong, give your reasoning and let me know how to fix it. i would have presumed you would tap into your wires that run to the two rear speakers but he says no.

please any help would be great he's just running a pair of subs

If it's the 460, it can be placed in the back at the data connector before the signal reaches the amp. I did this because if I did it from the front, I'd have to run new wires from the head unit to the rear. I did not even use a leveler. see below

No problem. The reason they probably did it off the front is because if you use a line converter and you place it on the wiring off the amps, you are amplifying a signal that has already been amplified and you will get lots of distortion (and probably other things you don't want). However you can tap the wires in the back before they get to the amps. The people that put it in probably just did not know where.

connecting the line outs up near the HU is the "traditional" way of doing things and a lot of old school shops swear by it

there really is no difference except that you need to run RCA cables all the way back to the trunk where your amp will be

As a matter of fact, this is all I used. I just cut it to length (no need for the spades) and spliced it in.

Radio Shack
24-Ft. Speaker Cable, 24-Gauge, RCA Plug to Lugs
$1.97
Model: 42-2450
Catalog #: 42-2450

good info here guys, your alot of help.

i traditionally just tap into the lines right where they hit the rear speaker, that way i know for sure my polarity is right, and know right and left, plus it cuts install time in half.
