I need new seats for my now ported 289 heads. Do I need to wait for the local Ford head-expert to do them (he has more work than time) or can I safely send them to an ordinary machine shop and expect that a proper job will be done?

Hard seats can be installed by any good machine shop!! But... the quality of the job can differ!! If the porter is installing over size valves, make sure the shop doing the seats knows that.. as the size for a stock 1.46 is a whole lot smaller than for a 1.60 or 1.55 !! cool?? also a performance shop will usually take a bowl cutter to the bowl to open it up inside the bowl as well ( it also saves the ported from extra time pocket porting the bowl)!! Hope this helps... just ask the porter!! cool??
