Guys this one is really bad! Even on 91 octane gas and my timng set at about 5 degrees, im getting really bad detonation when i get on the the throttle, its REALLY bad over 2500. Could a bad MAF sensor be messing with my air/fuel mixture causing detonation? I'm at a loss here cuz i just tuned up the car last week(cap, rotor, plugs-Autolite 24), Its really pissing me off too cuz i cant drive fast at all. Any help will be much apreciated.

seems like cleaning the MAF wire, ECT and ACT can help. for right this second, you could try locking out the timing at like 20* and see how it does.

what temps are you running (if you have a real gauge and know).

good luck.

oh yeah, if it happens only at higher revs and deeper in the pedal, i would not overlook lack of fuel (filter, pump, bad regulator, etc).

good luck.

My pump is whining a lot Bout time for a new pump i guess, would a 190 be a good idea since its gonna stay stock for a pretty long time?

um, probably a good one - i cant remember what stock is (on my 88, the stock pump was like 88 LPH and i think that was bumped up to around 95 LPH for SN's). in any case, that should work pretty well, i think. others might disagree.

i would troubleshoot it a little more before figuring it is the pump though. a FP gauge will tell a lot. good luck.

Yeah, start with the basics. Check vacuum, fuel pressure, plugs/wires/cap/rotor, clean MAF and IAT, check resistance at IAT and ECT, replace fuel filter (if it hasn't been done in a long time), etc.

Does your car ping at WOT only, or part throttle, or both? Test WOT and part throttle when the motor is bone cold (1st 60 seconds of from startup time) and nice and warm.
