Magnaflow issues.....

I recently purchased a set of used but like new magnaflow axle-back mufflers off ebay. I recieved them and went to put them on today and they don't even come close to fitting. The angle of the pipe coming off the back of them is the wrong angle. Is it possible that maybe these came with a catback kit, or aftermarket midpipe and are made to specificly fit it? I went ahead and bolted the mufflers to my exhaust just to see if I liked the sound enough to have a muffler shop cut and reweld the pipe and was VERY dissapointed. The magnaflows arent even as loud as my stock mufflers. So now I start the search for a louder muffler set up, but nothing that sounds like flowmasters What direction should I go? I want something louder than stock of corse, but I dont want something that pops or cracks when letting off the gas. I know this has been asked a million times, Sorry.

What was the part number that you purchased? Magnaflow makes 3 different axle-back exhausts for the 05-09 GT. They have the regular Magnaflow axle-back (15882), a Magnaflow Magnapack axle-back (16793), and a Magnaflow Muffler Delete axle-back (16843). They go from quietest to loudest.

Based off the install sheet, what part of the pipe is off at the wrong angle? These systems are built to hook up to the stock exhaust and reuse the stock hangers.

my mufflers are the 15882. When looking at the pictures, the top inlet pipes are what are not at the right angle for my exhaust.

how big is the inlet? if its a 2.5in pipe then it should fit no problem. If it is 3inch it may be part of a catback. Just guessing here.

The inlet pipe slides right onto my exhaust as it should, but the angle makes the muffler and tip point out at the corner of the bumper instead of the rear cutout.

sounds like you have the cat back system. They come with their own mid pipes. I know because I have a cat back system. I tried to install the stock mufflers back on the magnaflow mid pipes and the angle was different. We couldn't even make them fit at the muffler shop, lol. Then I decided to cut off the magnaflows at the back of the muffler. Then cut the pipe off the back of the stock muffler. It welded right in place after that. I then cut tyhe tips off the magnaflow mufflers and welded them on the stock mufflers. I would assume you could do the same, but install the magnaflows. They are great mufflers and make great power, almost as much as no muffler. They are very quite though. It has to do with the insert inside the tip.

Have you tried adjusting your over-axle pipes? If you loosen the clamp where the over-axle pipes meet the H pipe, you can twist the over-axle pipe and get a LOT of adjustment. That may fix your issues.

I have the Magnaflow street axle back. Even with the off road H, it's pretty quiet. It sounds good, but I wish it was a bit louder.

I thought maybe Id ask this here real quick rather than start another dreaded exhaust post. If Im not able to get my magnaflows to work I will scrap that idea and get something else. I am considering the pypes mid-muffler system, or the slp powerflow axle backs. Anyone have any input on these? I looked at clips on you tube of the two of them and they both seem to have the sound I like. I am leaning towards the mid-muffler set up b/c it is rediculously cheap.

The mid-muffler system sounds great, but you must have patience with the installation. Because it comes in so many pieces, it needs tweaking. But once you get it in, it sounds awesome. I'll get it some day.

I have the magnaflow catback with magnapacks and I absolutely love the sound. I know others with out the magnapacks and it doesn't sound stock. I'd make sure you got what you ordered and go from there. Return it if yu can and it's worth the little extra money to get the cat back IMO

Actually you may have it on opposite. When I was installing mine it took me a few trys to get it to fit perfectly also

Try flipping the exhaust hangers around too.

Its a no go with the magnaflows. When they are side by side with the stock mufflers the inlet pipe is welded on at a different angle, and the inlet pipe is also longer. American muscle has the mid-muffler system for $320 bucks. I wish I would have just gotten that instead of the magnaflows for $300. Anyone need any magnaflows for their car? Someone could probaly just cut off the stock inlet pipe and weld them onto the magnaflows. I thought about having it done, but they are quieter than I want tho.

I'm a boomtube fan myself but the SSS terminator AB ($299) seems like a good alternative to the SLP powerflows if you're still debating on those.

I just put boom tubes on and am extremely happy with them. Which reminds me I need to update my sig one of these days.

The only thing I can think of is that the kit you bought was the axle back section of the 15881 which won't bolt up to the stock, it has to be the 15882. When you got the box was it a box from Magnaflow with the 15882 part number on it? Wonder if someone boxed up the axle back part of 15881 and sold as 15882. Not sure why it won't bolt right up, I installed one of these a couple weeks ago and it fit perfect, no problems.

Thats sucks dude. That is one of the scary things about buying used stuff.....can you trust the seller? Are you getting what you think your getting? Any chance you can return them?

that really sux meng!! I knew those mufflers on our cars are REALLY quiet. On my 01' Grand Cherokee tho, it sounds amazing (too much drone with a deleted cat). I first loved the sound clips of the Pypes MM system, but then I heard of the fitment issues - A Magnapack system is in the future for me now. BTW, does a cat-back really make a difference - I heard our factory pipes flow really well.............well enuf not to even really bother?

I don't think the OTA pipe provided by magnaflow makes that much of a difference in hp or tq. I couldn't tell a difference.
