Magnapack Catback Problems

First of all, I am just about ready to get rid of this catback....I have to re-adjust the system atleast once a month. I'll get it so there is no pops or bangs, and then it F$*$%ING starts to do it again. Plus now the whole thing is covered in rust (btw, what is the best stuff to use to clean the rust off of the pipes?).....does anyone else experience these types of problems with theirs, and does anyone have any suggestions besides buy another catback which I really don't want to do? It sounds great, but I am sick of adjusting it so it doesn't hit my sway bar, or the tips so they look even.

I have had mine on for a couple of months now without any problems, and I am driving in the winter/salt/etc. Make sure all your bolts are tightened down enough and use thread lock on the allen bolts that hold the tailpipes in place.

Ive had mine for over a year and a half, and its still aligned with no rust

im not sure why yours is giving you problems

try using loctite on the bolts

EDIT:

My pipe was hitting the swaybar, i heated it and flattened it with a hammer where it was making contact... Doesnt effect the flow that much and it doesnt hit anymore. Try this

any ideas what I could use to get the rust off?....Good idea on the hammer, I might just hammer the whole damn thing. I have checked the bolts, about 100 times. I don't think they can get any tighter.

I've had mine for a year or so with no problems. When I had it installed, I had the tech weld the tips in place b/c I heard that they can loosen up over time.

I have had my system 2 years without a problem. My tips have always stayed in place just fine, but if your unhappy with them just got and have a shop spot weld them in place. Loosen the entire system up and adjust it if you want to miss the sway bar. I dont know, Ive never had a problem like that. As far as the rust, first of all nobody sees the system so, I wouldnt worry about it much, but if you want to get it off, you could always just sand it a bid, and put some engine paint on it

Your system should be stainless so I wouldnt worry about the rust. My magnaflow system hasnt been on long enough to give any feedback but the installation and fit was flawless. You just have to get under the car and loosen up the entire system. Then re-align everything and re-tighten. There is LOTS of room for adjustment througout the system. Check the condition of your rubber hangers to make sure they havnt deteriorated and the use of loctite isnt a bad idea.

edit: if you really wanted the rust off, use WD-40 and some rough steel wool

Finally someone with the same problem!! mine clunks and bangs against the rear sway bar also! it bugs the shiiit out of me, but my car is so low that there is no way to adjust it so that it doesnt hit.

should we just take them into an exhaust shop to have them bend the pipes a little differently?

Your car being lowered shouldnt be the problem. Just because it is sitting lower doesnt mean that the axle/swaybar travels in a different path. Your rearend is just already sitting partway into its travel range. It should fit no matter how low your car is. I wouldnt recommend hammering or altering the pipe...thats JMO..It should fit with the proper adjustments.

I've had mine now for a year with absolutely no problems. I would guess whoever did your install didn't do a very good job. My installer had to "adjust" the pipes a bit and all has been perfect ever since the install.

I would say whatever you do, don't sand the pipes. I have a feeling that would void the lifetime warranty on it. I put on a Dynomax system for somone that had the same problem. A little adjustment and it was golden. I'd say to take care of the rust use a flitz wheel (they rock) and some metal polish, but if you sand it I think it will void your warranty and make the problem worse.

you need to neutralize your exhaust. to do this loosen all the bolts and tighten them evenly little by little.

P.S. I had a Magnapack system on my '02 GT and I currently have a Magnaflow cat-back on My Cobra. Never had any problems with either.
