Ok, I finally got my car done and running. New clutch and exhaust was all that was installed. I had to jump the battery in order to start it. The car ran for about ten minutes, then like an idiot I shut it off. Had to jump it again and let it run for about 25 mins. and it ran great. Drove it a lil bit from the house to show off at the local "hangout" and shut the car off. After about 45 minutes I left to come home and the car started just fine.

Now here's the problem. I got home shut the car off so I could move the rice rockets in my driveway to make room for the Stang, and the car wouldn't start! It acted like the battery was dead. I got pissed and hit the battery and the lights came on, then the car would start right up. I went on a small drive to turn it around and went to pull in my drive way and the car died. To make a really really long story a lil shorter, I put in a brand new battery and the car would act fully charged until I tried to start it. The starter would just drag real slow. Now I put my old battery back in it and the car would turn over just fine, but won't start.

Please help me figure this out, I really want to drive this car before I leave!!! ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

Edit: The fuel gauge also goes up when trying to start it, but as soon as I let off the key it goes back down.

Are the terminals clean and tight? are your cables corroded/green?

To answer your questions yes they are tight and clean, and no they aren't corroded or anything like that.

at this point, i would follow your batter cables back to verify you have a good ground and connection at the fuse box under the hood. you have a bad connection somewhere

Hitting the battery part reinforces the short theory. I would wiggle all the wires directly hooked up to the battery and see if the lights go out or flicker. Also, you can get corrosion inside the battery wiring (under the plastic coating). That can cause so much resistance that the battery might seem dead.

Agreed. The cables can indeed rot from the inside out.

I would go over every one of them and add another motor-to-chassis ground, and neg-terminal-to-body ground while at it.

You can use a spare jumper cable in parallel with each OEM cable till it starts. The one being paralleled at that time is likely deficient.

You seem to be doing quite well. I probably have a few years on ya anyhow. I don't soak up info like I used to, nor can I recall anything within a tenth of a second like I could as a kid.

Sad part is I know who all those people are and lots of people don't these days!

p.s. +1 on the cables dude. My loops that went around the battery posts had HOLES in them on the INSIDE of the loops!!

What are you down to now....... 4 or 5 tenths? You old man you! And just a thought....sometimes old batteries have nice wear patterns with your connectors, so when you put a new battery in the terminals don't touch very good, probably why you have a weak start with the new battery
