I have all the pieces for my 68 cougar with the T5. I don't want to leave it plain, like the mustang console. It seems like the factory stuff really isn't that special.

High density foam, can of black paint. Surely, some of you have made something similar in the past.

How hard can it be?

Actually, the Mustang and Cougar console were both padded in 1968.

that looks a lot better ( imo ) than the earlier stangs console with all that plastic, looks much more comfortable for daily use.

I have all those parts except the pad for the lower half. There has to be a way to fake it some how....

Sure, you could mould a fireglass piece the right shape, glue a foam pad on it, and have upholstery sewn for it. For a lot less work and money, you could locate a used one. Call Mustang suppliers who have used parts, and haunt eBay.

My experience is that four speed console parts are usually made of unobtanium...However, if you know of a four speed console pad, I'm all ears!

I think I'll explore the fiberglass foam option. 4-500 bucks for the pad I need is just too hard to swallow. I've been gathering parts for these cars for almost 20 years now. I'm not getting any younger!

I have been thinking of building a custom pad for my 68 Console as my original 4 speed pad is in pretty rough shape. I would like to add an arm rest, storage compartment to it, similar to the Shelby or 69-70 Console but keep the rest stock looking. Hope to give it a try in early Feb.
David.

IIRC 68 Cougar pads were padded all the way across - they did not have the "pebbled" metal insert like the Mustangs.

And IIRC, you are correct, if you mean the xr7, but the standard Cougar had the Mustang console.
