Alright I have a 67 coupe with the combo below.

289 9.7:1
weiand stealth
ported and polished heads by Thumper
.496 lift 224 deg of durat 2500-6000 rpm range
600 cfm holley vac secondary
headers
C4 with 2800 stall

Alright I do no driving on the freeway with this car, I have a Jeep to drive everyday so I'm not worried about freeway rpms. I was thinking 3.80's but 3.55's seem more civil. Let me know what you all think.

I have never been unhappy with 3.55s in a street driven car like yours. If you're not going to the drag strip and don't spend much time on the highway, they're just about perfect, IMO.

I like the 3.55's as well.

If you decide all out strip warrior, I would go 4.11s instead.

it all depends on how comfortable you are reving your engine at 3800 doing 65 with 3.80's with a 26" tall tire.

From what I can gather I think the best performance for the street minded stanger is 3.50s If you have a certain drag strip goal, like me, I think you might need a little more.

I can't say this from experiance, as I'm getting ready to try 4.11s this weekend and I think they will be to much for me, and will probably be pulling them for 3.80s or something close to that but my goal is to join the 12 second club.

my goal is mid 13's. I mean i love the low gears from a dig. i used to have 4.10's in my 5.0 but I don't much care for the rpms it would spin at like 85 LOL but this car won't be over 55-60 other than at the track on the weekends

You guys must be young. My Eliminator will do 11's and it is stock. My 69 Cougar convert with 2.73's (albiet an 11/1 roller) is in the low 12's. My stock Pony with the A block 4 speed and 3.00 gears just got a SW cam. 512 lift and I can not drive it at full throttle. It has 325000 miles on the original engine and it just smoked a Jaguar XK8 last night. I guess I do not quite understand all the mods that people do. I made one simple change and created a monster that is unsafe. 2nd gear @30 mph and full throttle took me three lanes to recover.

My simple rule is "Full throttle......No Bottle!!"

i usually don't do this but.....

people like you that think they have such fast cars and never take them to the track to really find out what they do. and brag about getting chip out of 3 gear with regular 225/60/15's tires... cause it is really hard

CJ Elimator run mid to high 13's stock back when they were brand new!

My simple rule is "Full throttle......No Bottle!!
------is for people that get upset because they have a fully built big block and get beat by a mildly built small block on the juice with half the money!

it doesn't matter how you get there....RUN WHAT YA BRUNG!

i don't think even the fastest stock 65-73 mustang's ran in the 12's back then, but we have some now!

Thank you

Rich

Yep I agree totaly with what you said. People always..always over estimate their cars. Its funny at the drag strip when people talk all this crap about how fast thier car is and then they run it and start making all kinds of excuses. People just dont relize what it takes to get a quick car. Sure there are cheap ways, like nitrous but you cant use taht on the street everytime you want to beat the kid with the honda next to ya.

I am still here!~! Does anyone here know what an Eliminator is?? The Cougar is the step sister of the mustang. How many Cougars had a I-6???? NONE!!!! I have a tach, speedo, oil and water gauges. No radio, no accessories, nothing!! My interior is stripped of all non necessary BS!! Not by my choice but from the factory. It just goes. Of course it is just a little faster with the intake, exhaust and carb, because new parts are better than old. (But still the original ,un-machined engine.) MY Bad.

However I wrecked the Mustang. Second gear @ 30 mph the car went crazy. I do not know if the posi broke but I went over three lanes with the back end smoking, Then came the curb!!!! All the emblems came off, the windsheild cracked and I did a 180.

Full Thottle!!!
