hey guys,
After being at the track today I finally got the kick in the butt ot finish my 67. Well before I race next weekend I would like to get the rear end done up with some new parts. Let me give you some background. This is a 75/25 % street/strip car. It has a 289 with 9.8:1, .496 lift and 224 deg duration at .050 (2000-6000 rpm range), ported heads, stealth intake, C4 with a 3000 edge racing convertor and long tube ceramic hooker headers. I want to cruise around town and 55-60 will be the highest mph on the street this will see. I run 245-60d15 Hoosier quick times at the track with shelby underriders. I want a car I have no problem jumping in and driving but I need some decent short times at the track. I was thinking 3.80 gears (I could be convinced of 3.55's), a Detroit Truetrac and a complete overhaul kit all in my 8 inch rear. Please let me know my noon Sunday so I can ordering the parts to get here by midweek so they can be installed for next Saturday!

Is this your primary driver or just a toy? Must you rely on it for basic transportation? How many street miles are you planning each year? How far do you drive it at a clip?

Sorry for all the questions but it does have a bearing on which gear. Here are my opinions:

The 3:55 is a decent around town gear for a performance daily driver. It will also be OK for jaunting to a car show 100 miles away. It is a great gear for an automatic car. It will work at the track too, but certainly not as well as the 3:80.

The 3:80 is less capable on the street and your drive will be noisier with the increased engine RPM. It will get you rolling pretty good at the track, considering your build. I am sure you will still be building power at 6k and the 3:80 will keep you in the cam's power range.

it's not my daily driver my anymeans, i have a 91 LX to take care of that. Well, the most it will be driven at a time will probably be this September from Columbus, Oh to Cordova, Il for hot rod's drag week. but other than that maybe 20-30 miles.
