So i'm in the middle of rebuilding a t-5. I got my new countergear and needed to press the bearings on. Since it's been a while since i've done a t-5, i brush up on the Tremec manual.

So i go to work and press the two bearings on the countergear and go home. Took 10 mins literally and i was on my way. I try to install it and it won't fit. The bearing is in the way. I just then remembered the bearing needed to be pressed on AFTER the shaft was in the case.

I go read the Tremec rebuild PDF and they say press the two bearings on first and then put the shaft in.

Now i need to find a thin puller to get behind the bearing and pull it off and then take it all back to work and repress it while inside the case

If you're real good you can press the bearings on before putting the cluster in. I've done it once, and the transmission builder at my shop only does it that way on t5s.

Why no use some blocks and set the bearing on the blocks and use the press to push the shaft out of the bearing?

I want to measure mine. It doesn't look that tall.

Because there is nowhere to put the blocks. I have about a 1/8" lip to grab and need thin jaws because the gear is right up next to the bearing.

Pacecar...i've been trying to wiggle it in but it's no dice. I gotta take the bearing out. I'll go try again though

We might have something at work. We have everything you can imagine...but it's a huge building so stuff is scattered around in all the labs and tough to find.
