So then,...you're saying that you have your left hand where your right hand would ordinarily be, because your right hand is on the shifter? You must have a NASCAR stock car, because for you to constantly need to grab that part of the wheel w/ your left hand (to the point of wearing through to the core in the wheel) means you turned to the left like a mother.
madmike1157 don't know what to tell you but you must have never driven a 5 speed with a manual rack. Mine was like that when i go it, the guy before me probably drove 50k like that and caused the hole. when you spin the wheel the palm of your hand is there pivoting...

I am also thinking this over, I'm about ready to get mine back on the road and my rack is leaking and my pump whines (it is full of new fluid) So I'll probably deal with it or get the manual steering.
