Hey, I have searched and didn't find much on this subject, plenty of info on going the other way. so let the hate mail begine. especially since I am considering doing this to a 01 Bullitt.

the reason I am thinking of doing this is my brother doesn't need to be driving a manual, his trans and clutch is shot, I think an auto would be much better for him.

anyways, as mentions the car is an 01 bullit. question is what years can I be looking for parts, will anything from 96 up work. or does it have to be specific.

beside the transmission, torque converter, shifter/linkage, colling lines, flexplate and possible a yoke, what else would I need. could I just simply mount an aftermarket tranny cooler so I wouldn't have to change the radiator. what about the cross-member.

Thanks

I know you will need a auto tranny wiring harness and a auto computer. I am pretty sure you can use your stock crossmember. I don't think you will need a new yoke but you may need a shorter driveshaft. A lot of these depends on what auto you go with. If you go with a built auto and the output shaft on the tranny is 31 spline then you would need a new yoke (stock is 28 spline). In 96 to 98 autos they have a mechanical speedometer, but you might beable to reuse yours. Hope this helps...

I did that with our old '95 Mustang and have a tech article on our web site in the tech section LaSota Racing not all things will apply to your car, but things like shifter mounting will apply.

If he wishes to use a 4R70W, he can re-use the driveshaft but will need the auto yoke. I know this because when installing my aluminum driveshaft, I needed to swap the yoke from my stocker to the new driveshaft.

That's too bad about the 96 to 98's, theres a guy in town who was side swipped in his 98 auto and is parting it out. thought I could just get all the parts off of the car, but I think it would be best to stay away from the mechanical speedo, so the search begines for a 99 and up car or parts.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.

The 99+ transmissions have several upgrades. I'd suggest going with an 01 or later. They shift better and are stronger. I can't spell dirrable!!!!!!

Not necessarily more durable, they still suffer from the same heat/TC shudder/accumulator deterioration problems - but are tweaked a bit different. Make sure to install a big stacked plate tranny cooler with it as well

You'd need an EEC and a pedal box. I'd buy the bullitt pedal box if youre going to do it.
