I just had a Marti report done on my 1970 Mach 1. I found out its a 351-4V, 3-speed manual, power steering, and A/C. Everything is there except the 3-speed....someone replace it with a C6. Im restoring this car to original so I want to install a 3-speed....what model # is the 3-speed so I can start looking for one? Where is a good place to fine one? Thanks for any help.

You need a "Toploader" 3 speed, these look just like the better known 4 speed Toploaders, but are 3 speed versions. Good news is they're dirt cheap, everyone who had one, swapped them or wanted to for the 4 speed. If you're looking for the "correct" one for your car, try contacting David Kee at www.4speedtoploaders.com he can probably hook you up with the tag number you need to get the one you want.

Dream up how much power you want to put thru it and it'll handle it. My 67 390 Stang had one behind it from the factory. They're as bullit proof as the 4 speed models were. The only bad thing was the spread between the ratios. My 67 had 3.00's in the rear and I raced a late 60's Camaro one night that had a 4 speed and 4.11's. He went thru 2 gears before I finished 1st, but the 390 plain out torqued him and steadily pulled away from him. Did this twice, and he was still puzzled about it.:rlaugh:
