Mat be getting a 331 longblock...will stck parts fit?

May be getting a 331 longblock...will stck parts fit?

If I wind up replacing my 140,000mile stock engine, I am thinking of a DSS 331 longblock. Which stock parts change over without problems? What else will I need to replace?

* intake manifold?
* Valve covers?
* computer ?
* injectors, fuel system?
* Water pump, alternator, power steering?
* Oil pan?
* airconditioner?

Guess I'll need to buy an engine stand and cherry picker. Wonder what else?

I've never done this before, I have budget for DSS longblock, but don't know what else I need. It's for a 1995 Cobra 5.0; ultimately I will add a Vortec or Procharger once I get it running, and the bank account recovers a bit.

what is the whole setup that you are ordering?

everything should swap right over except you might need taller valve covers to fit the aftermarket roller rockers and also you'll probably want to upgrade to larger injectors.

everything should swap right over without much of a problem. I just did a DSS 331 short block and it went really nice. i would step up your injectors, and mass air but other than that. the cobra intake is fine, you might want to get a bigger TB. your going to need some kind of tuning with the increased cubes.

I'd suggest passing on the dss 331. I looked on their site and the pro bullet 331 looks like after all said and done will cost like $500 more than what I paid for my 347. If your serious, click the link in my sig and talk to Rick. I'd build a 347 personally as 16 more cubes will = more power across the tach. But a 331 is cool too, I just want more for the same price

yeah, see rick for a short block.. hes better than DSS.

as for your parts, everything is gonna fit.
if you use better rockers, your most likely gonna need taller covers.

computer is fine
injectors (if 19s) shouldnt even be put back on, nor shoould the (i presume) stock MAF
oil pan will work.... if you dont get a main girdle.
AC stuff can stay.
fuel system should be 30# injectors, afpr and a 255 in tank.
water pump and alt will stay, but its a good idea to upgrade the water pump while your at it.

how much would the said Rick charge for a short block 331 though? would it comparable to dss?

Mike, I Emailed them about pricing me out a 306 (in case I keep the blower). Can you let him know to expect an Email from RC if you talk to him?

THe only way I would do a DSS is If I lived close by and saved on the S/H, but then again you would have to pay the taxes...so it's a wash anyways.

I have no probs with using Rick, (based on your exp) or CHP for a new engine.

Looking to order Pro Bullet longblock with AFR 185s. Guess I'll also need an oil pan (for main support system), 30# injectors, 255 in-tank pump, and a new MAF...some valve covers, too. Then there's the dyno tune...dang, cost mount up quickly, don't they! Next I'll need a tranny or diff, supercharger, suspension upgrades...tires...where does it all end!!!

Its a sunday night, Nate. I wouldn't be telling people to be calling Rick who are "planning" to do a 331 in the year 2010 wasting Rick's time

WERD...Im not calling the poor guy at home, but What Im looking at is by next summer, not 2010...Reason Im asking is I may go with the Snow Meth Inj kit REALLY soon, if I know for sure Im keeping the Vortech.. So the plans the pricing for something next year may affect what I do in the next few months.

RC, a fresh 306 with a GOOD piston and a light weight rod with arp hardware, stock crank, a blower and a good head like an afr 185 or 185cc TW head (my preference is tfs) from summit would flat out ROCK!

haha yea, I do not quite have the funds for it yet, I do have a fund set aside for it, but I am only putting a small amount in out of my checks at a time, Im about 100% certain it will be done before 2010, but I dont think it will be done within the next 2 years.

Does that come already built?

Rick ALREADY Emailed back with some good info

He said for the little difference in $$, he would still do a 331 over a 306, even with the blower.

Hell yeah go stroker. You mentioned 306, so I put together a quick 306 combo for you that would haul ass

The problem with going with a stroker now is the stock block and a blower. Thats gonna be a lot of power and IMO its flat out silly to build a combo like that with a stock block. Can it be done, sure. Does that make it right, nope.

If you are going with a stock block blower combo, i'd do the 331 only because it'll make less power than the 347 so you don't wanna go too crazy.

If your keeping the stock block my personal opinion is a nice n/a 347 or a supercharged 306. I'd use the 185cc TW heads summit sells.

First off...thanks for hooking me up with Rick...He's a guy that replies quickly.

Second, as far as the combo...If Im spending the money on all the parts, I may as well have him build the whole thing and just swap it out...I NEVER considered using the blower with a 347...only a 331. I may be buying the Meth inj cooler soon, so between that and recently fixing the Vortech, I would like to stay blown
