Hey guys, when I bought my car a while ago it had a mystery cam in it, whitch was replaced with a bcam. I was told if it was factory or even another letter cam it would have a ford emblem on it or say something with ford. I looked at the cam and the only writing I can find on it says 32. Anyone know how I would go about measuring a cam, what parts of the cam can I measure myself, would it be possible to figure out what kind of cam it is or the specs without taking it to a shop? Would it be worth it? Thanks. Ill try and get pics.

my bad guys it says ZE not 32, and on the outside it has a date and time, and it looks like it says 123 I can definatly see the 3 but theres a hole drilled rightin the middle of the 1 and 2 so I htink it says 123. That is ALL the writing I could find, you guys think its stock? Heres pics.
e the lastsee where it says the date, it looks like the year is 93, because I dont think it was made in 03, so that would probably make it stock right? and you can kinda see the 3 in the 123, and for the ZE i think the z is for ford and e is for engine, I think I read that, So im guessing its stock but I was told it isnt.

Def not a flat tappet. You can see where the roller tip rode on the lobes, and the cam is steel, not cast iron.

And it's not junk. It has some surface rust on it... Get some steel wool, coat it in oil and it won't rust.

But I don't know what kind of cam it is... Getting it measured would not really narrow it down much either. Many cam makers make the same size cam.

Do you think its stock nick? Ive seen someone else on stangnet when I searched who asked and he also had the 123 imprinted on his cam and he thought it could have been stock but was told it wasent stock, but he also had a bunch of numbers whitch I dont have, no one answered his posts though so idk, I dont care how it looks I could clean it up, I know its old, and its definatly used, ill probably just give up on it.

To measure the cam lift is easy!! using a "dial caliper" mic the side of the cam lobe ( at the bottom of the high lobe) then measure the height of the lobe !! take the s,all number ( small cam base circle ) and subtract it from the larger lobe lift number !! then X's that number by the rocker ratio ( Ford is 1.6) or : Base circle is 1.25" the high lift cam load is 1.58" subtract.. 1.25 from 1.58 = .330 then times rocker ratio. .330 X 1.6 rocker ratio = .5280 lift camshaft!! SOOooo... the cam is a .528 Lift!! to get the duration.. then the ole degree wheel comes out and that IS more than you'll want to do. at least you do know it is a performance camshaft!! cool??
