Apparently I dont know much about this stuff. And thankfully the previous owner washed the car with sandpaper, so I have lots of swirls marks. Will the paint cleaner and polish help get rid of most those? Does Meguire's make paint cleaner and polish too?

Well, since you put the wax on without prepping the paint, i suggest you wash car, Paint Cleaner, Polish, and Wax...

If you want to claybar the car do it after you wash. Then Paint cleaner, polish, wax. hehehe

Yes, they do. In the consumer line, it's Deep crystal paint cleaner (step 1) and deep crystal polish (step 2)....

even meguiars technical service line recommends NXT over gold class but i think they're just trying to make it a bigger name.

Actually NXT and Gold Class are very similar products as far as looks go but, NXT has much newer polymer technology and will last quite a bit longer than Gold Class. Also NXT is a pure polymer whereas Gold Class is a polymer/carnauba wax blend.

Supposedly there are some advantages and disadvantages to a polymer based wax as opposed to a pure carnuba
