Anyone have a guess on how much a manual fan and fan clutch is gonna cost? My electric one bit the dust today and overheated my car. Without a heater core, I got lucky as hell. Refilled the rad after it gushed what was left out and drove it home speeding a little to keep the airflow up. I got luuuucky. I found a not blown, but MELTED and utterly destroyed fusible link tied directly to my battery... Question is, whether the link died from a voltage spike from the alternator or battery (?), or whether the fan motor died and doubled the current back to the fuse... :damnit:

I highly dout that is a factory ford piece. The mustangs didnt get them standard till 94.You prolly have a blackmagic fan.Just get a flexfan on it.They are cheap.Just tell whoevere at discount or autozone what its going on and they will give you the fan and adapter. The ford fan and clutch are better but last time I checked they are not cheap.Prolly get the clutch no problem but I dont know bout a factory fan.Just get a flexfan.Had one in my 89,91,and 88 mustangs with no problems.Yes I have had 6 mustangs.67,89,95,91,88,2001.In that order.

So the Flexfan electrics are cheap and good fans? I know this fan isn't factory....I've known a few people with Mustangs from these years that all had the original fans but this was converted... I'm just worried about installing another electric only to have it blow. And I'm also worried about why this fuse melted...whether it was the fan motor seizing up or whether something else melted it which could happen again with a new fan. Decisions decisions...

But I DO hate the idea of going old-school again.....damn parasitic power loss...

No flexfans are the old stuff. There is no clutch for it or electric.Just over 20 bucks you got your car on the road again is all im saying.

OHH ok. I imagine the old-school stuff is easy....but god..the power loss... Shouldnt be very hard to install a clutch to a fan right? I want to lose as little power as possible through the fan swap.

A touchless carwash avoids this situation. I would venture to say that the wing would still be attached had it not been for the carwash brush.

Hmmm...I could see how that could happen. But it's odd because it's never happened in the 10 months I've been working there, and we've run hundreds of mustangs (and other cars with wings) through there. Oh well.

It was just a freak thing to happen.I also know of a carwash that wont allow most cars with wings into their place.

OrLackThereof its not that bad of a lose.Maby 5hp at best. But the thing with a flexfan is that it causess less drag.Thats what it was designed to do.If I remember right.

Yeah...but when you're only pushing 250-275 at the fly, you get concerned over every last drop of horsepower. 5 upsets me....but....it's a necessary sacrifice I guess...

Why don't you just have someone check the current draw on the fan motor before you go buying one of those obsolete flex fans? If the fan motor is still good it would probably cost less to repair the wiring than switching back to a mechanical setup. Besides, I doubt a flex fan will keep your engine cool in the summer when you run the A/C system. If you really want to go backwards in technology I would only take one step back, not two, and get the correct thermostatic fan clutch and fan assembly.

Thanks for the "happy birthdays" guys.
So far I've received cash and a gift card for American Eagle, 2 new pairs of shoes, and my brother is taking me out for a weekend on the town in Orlando this weekend..and my mom's fiance' will be down here that weekend also, so when I get back from my brothers', hopefully there will be something sitting in the driveway... but I'm not getting my hopes up.

I'll have a HD fan clutch and fan soon if your interested. Only problem is the fan is cracked really bad. I just picked up a Mark VIII electric fan, hopefully I'll get it on this weekend.

A replacement stock fan blade is $55 from 5.0Resto

The 4.10's are to counteract the lack of power.

Well the fan is going on tomorrow....my dad already called the tow place when I was at school and it's getting towed to Gene's. He's probably gonna pay for it as a graduation gift....so.....whatever he wants to do. I'm not that concerned right now. It'll work good enough and I've got all the time in the world to make money and get this thing the way I want it.. Few years down the road, if I still have this car, it'll get a dual electric setup...so..whatever!

Hey Erich, the little light bulb in my head just turned on..
when I saw you mentioning that a guy with a Mach 1 got his wing ripped off at Tropical Splash the other day... well, turns out that he is the newest member of the club. He came into Doubles this morning and we chatted for a few, then he mentioned the wing getting taken off. He said he'd be at the meet tomorrow though.
Sucks it happened to that car...instead of a stupid ricer or something.
