Melbourne area stangs

I'll be going with H's. I enjoy having low end torque. Actually I've heard X's on a 4.6, didn't like it too much. But H's sound good, IMO.

Nope. Aftermarket cat-backs will bolt up with no modifications necessary. Same with the crossover tube. BTW, why'd you decide on the H pipe over an X pipe? Just curious...

No, I mean if I put 2.5 inch pipes on the stock cats. I'll wait till later to switch out the cats. Would that work?

We're talking about a 2.5" cat back right? If so, it will work. 2.5" catback will work with 2.25" crossover pipe. Mine is 2.25" crossover pipe with 2.5" (or was it 3", I can't remember  ) cat back. No problems, no modifications necessary.

Alright, cool. I was worried that I would have to do it all at one time, because I didn't know if the 2.5 inch pipes would fit the stock cats. Any suggestions on what I should get? I think it's dual chambered mufflers I need if I plan on getting H's. Who's good? Don't really want Flows. Steeda? Dynomax? What else is good out there?

BTW: I just notced the change at the bottom of your sig, Bag. Very appropriate. :jester:

Depends on your budget. I would suggest Bassani, but you're right. Chambered mufflers work better with H-pipes to develop torque. So I guess it boils down to how much you want to pay, or rather, how much you're willing to pay.

:nice: I thought those who knew me might like it.

BTW guys, you missed it. I was at TJ's today and he had a sweet 86.5 SVO in there. Very clean, very good looking car. It was on the rack and undernieth it, Mike had his N/A 400hp Saleen beast to keep out of the rain. Of course he had the race tires on it so he was waiting for the rain to stop before he attempted to drive :nice:

If I wasn't busy house sitting and such I'd been down there if I'd known a SVO was there...I still need a motor :jester:

Hey baglock, if I ran across a set of upper and lower control arms, lets say, at the drag strip and if I had the cash, you think they'd be okay to purchase. The poly bushings shouldn't be a problem should they?

Okay, good news. I asked my dad about getting the new exhaust, and he said we'd talk about it, but he might let me do it. He does, however, want a list of everything I want that has to do with exhaust. I was thinking maybe I could convince him to buy me some high-flow catted H-pipes as a graduation gift, and then I'd get everything else. So what all is needed? Pipes from the cats to the muffler, the muffler, and tips, right?

Okay, Bassanni is good, any specific type of muffler? Thanks.

EDIT
I just listened to a clip of the Bassani Quite Thunder, and it sounded great. I think I'll go with that, if that one good for what I want, at least...

H-pipes sound nice a deep. ;) I like h-pipes better on 5.0 but I like the X-pipe on 4.6's better. I dunno why.

I feel the same way. I have H-pipes on both of my 5.0 stangs and I love the deep tone they make. The 4.6s seem to sound better with the X-pipes though. I am putting in a new enigne into a 99 cobra at my work which has an x-pipe. It is one mean and exotic sounding car even with the stock mufflers.

So long as they are structurally sound (no dings, dents, etc), the poly appears to be good (not dry and cracking) , and the end-links don't have any bind in them (they move completely free throughout the entire range of motion) they should be fine. Beware poly on UCA's though. Unless it's a 3-piece poly bushing (soft outer rubber and hard center poly) it's worse than stock.

Well if you want an H pipe, the Bassani wouldn't be the best choice for power. Bassani is a straight through which helps with mid to high end power and are typically mated to an X pipe, which also work to build mid-high end power. Chambered mufflers (like flows) will work with the H pipe to build low end torque. Straight throughs will work with H-pipes but in my opinion, it's better to decide on HP or TQ and stick with it.

As far as what is needed, you really don't need to buy everything seperately. When you buy a cat-back, it includes everything. You basically just unbolt the stock muffler/tail-pipe assembly an bolt the new system up in its place. It's the same for the crossover tube. You unbolt the crossover tube/cat assembly and bolt the new stuff up.

TJ can get whatever you want. He's a Bassani dealer, but he also installs flows and Dynomax and probably everything else. His prices are average for a race shop. You can get stuff cheaper on the web or mailorder, but you can't go ***** at the web when somethings wrong or you need a little help with something. I could go other places and get stuff cheaper, but I like to support local speed shops as it keeps me in the know on what's happening locally.

Yes, all you'll need after you buy the cat-back will be 4 jackstands(unless you have a friend with a lift), air rachet(makes it quicker), and a can of WD-40(liquid wrench).

You may have a hard time getting on base with an expired ID, but you could probably ram the gate. Just let me know when you're going to do it. :nice:
