Melbourne area stangs

Well, after having all this crap laying in the garage for a year or so, I finally got the time to install it all. The list includes:

Griggs tubular K-member
Griggs tubular A-arms w/delrin bushings
Griggs bumpsteer kit
MM coilovers (front and rear)
MM CC plates
MM road race LCA's
ES poly motor mounts

I've still got a couple items that need to go in (ES tranny mount for example) but I need a break. I started at 8:00 yesterday morning and went until 4:00 that afternoon and got the entire front end done. Not bad as far as I'm concerned, considering I did it without any extra hands and on jackstands. It went fairly smoothly. The hardest part was probably getting the rack back on as I didn't want to disconnect the lines. In retrospect, removing the rack from the beginning would have made things easier.

Today I did the rear, starting at about 11:00 and finishing up about 1:30. The hardest part of the rear was getting to the inside of the front LCA bolt with my Bassani mufflers in the way.

The Florida sun is giving me a beating out there and so I'm on break. After a couple hours, I'll go back out and set an alignment. I've got an eyeball alignment on it now and it feels pretty good for the twisties but a little twitchy on the street. The camber is probably at around -4*, the caster at about +6*- +7*. Toe is real close to where I want it, but I'd like to toe it just a hair out from where it sits. Current ride height is set at 26.5" in the rear (ground to fender) and 26" in the front.

On my test drive (just a mile or so up the road and back), it felt like I was just hanging on for the ride. I only ran it to about 60%, but it feels like a whole new beast. Predictable, confidence inspiring cornering. The brakes feel soo anemic right now just because all the brake dive has evaporated. Same with weight shift on acceleration. It's still there, but barely. The car just feels 100% stable through all of it's transitions. I can't wait until I get a performance alignment tuned into it and everything has had a chance to settle in.

I'm tired.

Patience. Besides, I still haven't decided if I'm going to buy/build a TA/PHB or build a bastardized 3-link. I like the 3-link idea but the packaging will be a nightmare .
Are you gonna have that beast ready for next AutoX? Next event is Sunday only, Sept. 21. I think I'll be running next time, but with no new mods to mine, just a different attitude and rotors that are in spec.

They quoted me $2,000 bucks for my car to be painted (before the body work that I have done now). He asked me if I wanted show quality and I laughed and just said something that's gonna last me for awhile. I don't know if you remember the yellow vette they had, but he said it would look as good as that.

fred

Hey! Hows it going? I'm doin alright, been pretty busy with work, ebay, and my domain...but other than that been pretty good. As to the car, its still the same. Been putting most of my money into a lot of other stuff, so the car is pretty much in the same shape it was before. It definately needs paint, so thats the next step...but it's a slow, expensive process...heheh.

What's your mustang sitting parked for? Something wrong with it? We should hook up some night and go ride around or somethin. :nice:

That's cool man. It's runs and everything now, just can't afford to drive 2 vehicles or atleast insure 2. So i've just been driving my dirty azz truck around for the time being. What's your domain about btw, or what is a domain? Yeah man, we definately need to hook up on night though.

Yeah, seriously...it's starting to get boring!

Hey...anyone know of a good, cheap exhaust shop around here? I think I have an exhaust leak so I just need to have it welded shut or something, and since it'll be well under an hour but most places charge a 1 hour minimum, I'm looking for the cheapest place to do it....

Couldn't say...the packaging is all labeled for an 86-93 5.0.....but on one of the papers inside it gives the firing order as being for the 5.0 HO and the 351W....who knows...but so far it LOOKS like it's for a 5.0... But yeah, the MSD one IS too long....either before or after the gear, I'm not sure...but the gears will mesh but it wont seat properly. The shaft below the gear is 1.5 in., whereas the original distributor shaft below the gear is only 1 inch. It's shaped differently too...but the part number on the distributor matches. Maybe I got a defective one...who knows.
