Metal Fender Flares for 65 Mustang

Does anybody know where I can get a set of metal fender flares for my 65 Fastback? I like the look of this car but they are fiberglass units from Maier Racing. I heard the fiberglass can delaminate from the metal in a few years.

IMO, the front flares look larger than the rear, it should be the other way around. It would be great to fit 10" wide wheels on the rear!

How good are you working with metal?? Make em or find something in the junk yard that has the right shape and weld em on your QP.

First, Steel must think you're talking about a 10" tire because I've read enough posts from him to know that he realizes a 10" wheel won't fit on the first generation cars. I couldn't agree with you more with respect to fender flares for first generation cars. We have no viable options. The rear flares on the car you posted look pretty good (notice I said pretty good), but they are still not "crisp" enough if you know what I mean, and the front flares completely screw up the body lines. I haven't found any supplier who makes good looking, big flares for the early models that mesh with the body lines.
With that being said, MDJAY from Mustang Depot, who I might mention is a brother on this forum, a helluva nice guy, and someone who will answer any question you may have, offers the best looking flares for the early models, which are a part of the E2 kit he sells that is on his Sinister Stang. He has told me that the E2 flares will work with minimal mods, even without the rest of the E2 kit. The only problem is that those flares are only 1.5" to 1.75", the latter IIRC. With an excellent fender roll job, that would net around 2.25" or 2.5."
I have a feeling you would like a little more flare than that, as I would. Calling MDJAY, can your suppliers expound upon the E2 flares and make a 2.5" version?

Narrow your rear end. My '66 has a narrowed 9" and relocated leafs. 17" x 11" rear wheels fit under the stock sheet metal.

I do like flairs IF they are properly done. We are actually talking about a slight flair when we get back to the body work...

...sometimes I don't think that car will EVER get done...

Picture (of not just wheels, but more importantly front and rear leaf mounts) would be appropriate

Yeah, I know...LOTS of rust! New floor + tubs, etc...and other frame support => welded in. This puppy was neglected...by me! And, we'll add some nice shackles w/ good bushings. But, we've mocked up the wheels and they fit quite nicely.

These are OLD construction pics. Please understand...after being ready to BLOW UP the local Ford dealership last spring over inflated '05 prices...I committed the ULTIMATE SIN: I test drove a Holden Monaro [relabeled in USA as Pontiac GTO]...bad idea. The '05 goat was just too fast and too refined for the same price as a basic GT [30,500]. Of course, that LS2 couldn't be left stock...did the AWFUL rear-mount STS turbo [620 ft-lbs @ 4000 rpm at the rear wheels...]

I never owned a GM product in my life before this. Dad bought a '66 stang on my birthday in the fall of '65...grew up driving that car...so, the 'vert was always my dream car. But the goat has taken all of my time and money.

Dodgestang, as a lurker, I really appreciate your efforts. See, I was a resto-modder when I bought the 'vert in '79, but there was NO SUPPORT out there. Project languished. See the associated rust.

So: we knew that this convertible needed some rubber AND frame stiffening. Has a TON of extra steel in it...but it is never going to be a race car...just an AWESOME pretty weather and show car.

Thank you for the images. All my question have been answered. Not something for the faint of heart though so you might want to add a disclaimer Looks good though...got any of the finished product...I have a fuel still sitting on my work bench that would make that little mod very easy to do

Present status: narrowed 9" housing; no gears or axles yet. I have a fuel cell that fits in the middle of that steel. As I said elsewhere, I have the Boyd Smoothies [17 x 8, 17 x 11] and have had them mocked up on the car. Front end has had a Rod & Custom MII front suspension grafted in. 331 stroker short block has not been assembled w/ AFR's & KB blower yet. TKO 600 + Lakewood bellhousing is mounted. Haven't sorted out clutch issues yet. And then there is the appearance side...

Basically, the car has been sitting over the past year. Other priorities! [and didn't have $$ last fall; then worked out of town x 7 mos; then bought '05 GTO and have been focused on getting it completed!].

I hope that the car will be drivable in 2006. I have a lot of custom fiberglass work to do for the interior [console, stereo, etc] and haven't sorted out HOW to do a decent rear cover [hard cover over the convertible top] yet. Trunk hinges and convertible frame make that all a bit dicey.

i used the maier racing flares for the rear and ordered the one piece front fenders i also used there cal special decklid i put the rmodel apron on and a 67 shelby hood

No biggie. I see you post on here all the time, and I knew you just misunderstood the question because I know you are very familiar with this subject. I wouldn't have even pointed it out but for the fact that it would have created a huge tangent on this thread that would have confused the original poster.

Mine have been on since the 60's and I just sanded the passenger side quarter panel down. The paint had rock chips , so I really expected the fiberglass to be damaged or show some signs of delamination. They look as good as new. I can send a picture for someone to post, or might be able to do it myself if its not to complicated. I just bought a digital camera.
