Methanol Injection?

:shrug: I have an N/A 4.6. What exactly does methenol injection do? I've heard of the blown cars using it to cool the boost charge, but could I use it on my n/a 4.6? If so, what kind of gains would I get? Would I have to modify the engine?

Water Meth injection will not make much if any power alone. It will allow you to run more timing with less octane, but unless you have a very high compression engine, you aren't going to see much gain on a n/a engine.

Like he said is generally used on FI cars. Cools intake temps, and does some other things I don't have the knowledge to talk about in depth about. It does increase heat in the cyclinder though once it starts to burn. I have watched someone spray it, have too much methanol in the mix and burn all 8 plugs. That was on a pretty experimental combination though.

Cliff Notes: Not worth the money on a bolt on car.
 
methanol injection is only used for cars that have higher than normal intake air temperatures. The only benefit to having methanol injection is to cool the air entering the intake. This is done by atomizing the methanol mixture with the air mixture, creating a cooler air charge, giving you the ability to increase timing due to the safer, cooler air. It pretty much does the same thing an intercooler does for a blower / turbo. So, no, N/A cars do not benefit from this...

That was a pretty liberal use of the word "only". If you are looking for big horsepower gains, this is not for you on a N/A car. If you are looking for other benefits such as being able to run advanced timing and not paying 20 cents a gallon more for gas, then you do the math and it may be beneficial to you.
 
im running the snow kit on mine (9psi paxton) and it dropped my intake air temperature from 190*F down to 64*F.... that is an astonishing difference.. allowed more timing and less fuel and therefore more power :nice:

on a very high compression NA build, you would use it as a means to cool the air and so be less likely to detonate. However, you'd need to be running a serious NA build to require intake cooling to that level.
