I have an 01 GT. I like how my stock exhaust tips look, i heard headers are hard to change, and i dont want to go cutting the cat back and end up with exhaust rattle. I want to keep it clean. Thus i was just going to change my midpipe. Any suggestions on which one would be best? i live in NJ so it has to pass emmissions, plus i want it to last because i dont want to have to change it again, and finally i want it to sound deep like a race car. I used to have a TransAm with a huge cam and it glugged, sounded cool. Any help? or am i to picky, haha. Thanks.

an H pipe will give you a deeper sound but not as much power as an X pipe. i have the SLP X pipe with cats and i like it. it's still deep, just not as deep as an H.

i suggest SLP or Magnaflow catted X's.

Just change your mid pipe(x-pipe) and have mufflers welded in, I suggest Magna-flow!

if you have to remain legal , I'd get the SLP x pipe with the converters , and aslo purchase the race pipes and mil elims. tha SLP is one of the few x pipes that you can run cats, and off road with out changing the whole thing, Mil elims are recomended. other stainless steel pipe options are :MRT h pipe,Bassani x pipe, and Magnaflow x pipe, those pipes will out last your car, and are lighter than all the other , and i personally think ss sounds better..goodluck..Jayson

Yea i was thinking SLP, thats probably what i will get. Thats what i had on the TA, and it sounded great. How do you think just putting the catted slp X pipe on and keeping the headers and cat back stock will sound? Will it still be legal, will my check engine light come on?

on the slp x pipe you need mil elims. slp recomends it even though it has converters, i run off road exhaust with mil elim. and the light doesnt come on. If i were you I would try to get a catback too , the slp pipe is 2 1/2 and your stock c/b is 2 1/4 , or atleast have some high flow mufflers welded in, I dont recomend flowmasters with a x pipe.Jayson

I have the MRT H-pipe w/cats and the stock cat back. It sounds real good and I noticed good power increase especially between 3-5K rpm. The H definitely gives a deeper sound and I can't imagine gaining any more power from any other pipe.

I checked out the MRT H, and that seems to be exactly what i am looking for, thanks pdl2flr. Anyone know if i should have emissions/ check engine light problems with this pipe?

No check engine light problems so far, and have not had an emmissions test.
