Might sell the '86 for an '04 Cobra

my buddy has a terminater and it is stupid fast and corners well and feels great, but i love my fox. i will have a new 5.0 or gt500 in a couple of years but i have to keep my fox. i don't know how many people come over and sit in it just cause they miss thiers. the way i look at it i'll never get enough for my fox to justify selling it. i'll just wait a little longer. knowing it is in the garage is worth the few thousand i can get..i'm 37 so it is more of a time capsule of the party days, so you may have a way diffrent outlook on things.and besides it would be fun hitting the nitrous when i'm 70. just my opinion though.

Buy the cobra keep the fox and deal with the wife the best you can. I always had at least 2 foxes up until about 2 years ago when I sold my 87 gt. When I picked up my 99 a couple months ago she was pissed for a day or two then I told her to take it to run a couple errands with my 8 year old daughter and she's been fine ever since.

No . That's what scares me. I'm all for alternative fuels, but the big push seems to be all-electric... Which sucks. If we went to alternative fuels, I could at least just convert the fuel system. If boom-boom juice goes bye-bye, it'll be tough converting that 600 lb paperweight under my hood to electric.

I performed this mod to my Cougar a few years back. It's normally reserved for the 4V crowd, but it works well with the 2V cars as well.

You basically punch out one of the large frost plugs in the back of the driver’s side head and install a coolant bypass fitting. What it does is allows the coolant to flow all the way through the head, instead of pooling up around the 7 & 8 cylinders the way Ford originally designed it to. The coolant becomes trapped in the area allowing it to become stagnant and heat soaked.

Many a high strung 4V has gone down because of this issue. This is generally what kills these cars on the long WOT top speed pulls.

I doubt gas will go away. Once a viable alternative to gasoline is developed and it gains considerable market share, the infrastructure will quickly be developed, and the transition to this new technology will also move very fast (within 10 years). However, you'll still have a large handful of cars on the road that run on gasoline, therefore some filling stations will continue to exist because there's an economic opportunity to continue to sell gasoline. Many of the low income households won't be able to afford new "alternative" cars, and unless the alternative can provide the same level of performance and range to gasoline, it wouldn't surprise me to see high end sports cars continue to run on gasoline. You may have to pay at least $10 per gallon for gasoline, but I bet you'll still be able to find it within 10 miles of any metropolitan area.

Essentially what you're scared of is coming to a point in which there are no options for gasoline cars other than to convert their power plant. This won't happen as there are too many car enthusiasts and collectors that rely on gasoline to power their weekend toys or collectable automobiles. Even if we did run out of oil (highly unlikely in our lifetime), there would still be a market for synthetic fuels or at the very least ethanol.

Man if i had this option, it would be tough. I have a soft spot for '03s because my son was born in '03. I've always said i wanted to get one for my son and have it as his first car...we'll see.

Gas won't ever go away but once there's another alternative and demand for gas drops considerable, you can expect the price of gas to go through the roof and then some. They'll jack up the price to make up for lack of demand.

I'm not worried about it though. By then i'm gonna swap in a Mr. Fusion into my coupe and i'll use garbage for fuel.

Well boys, I called him and I am going to go for it. Its an '03 with 3,200 (yes, you read that right) miles. He just had it re-tuned last fall, and it now makes 616 at the wheels on pump gas. Its not a Whipple, its the Kenne Bell 2.8 with all the supporting mods. He swapped the IRS for a live axle, lowered it and widened the stock rear wheels to 11 inches. He said it looks stock on the outside, minus 335's on the rear. 3,200 ing miles, I cant cant pass it up. Its spendy, but it will be mine. I am sacrificing my sportbike, my turbo subura legacy DD, and a few of my assault rifles to put toward the purchase. The '86 will be my new DD, until the end of the summer when I sell it to someone who wont drive it in the winter. That will give me time to finish the new interior, and swap in the new engine which can only help resale. That stuff is already paid for, so whatever.
