MII steering/suspension

ok, first off, what is so great about the MII suspension and steering that everyone wants it on their 65-70 cars?

I myself have a 71, I am still unfamiliar withthe ins and outs of the car, but I imagine it has the same set-up as the 65-70 models, is there an option like the MII set-up out there for my car?

If you wonder why I am not familiar witheh ins and outs of my car, I have seen it all of 2-3 times in like 2 years, and that has been in a dark storage shed only when I have been moving stuff for my house..now downgraded ot a dorm room

I have a mach 1 car, and on a simliar subject (suspension) I intend my car to be built primarily for the strip, so then wouldnt a IRS be a downgrade performance wise as to my intentions?

Many of the MII changeovers are done on the 65-70 Stangs to improve steering and to gain room in the engine compartment. The steering is better on the 71-73's and the engine compartment is larger, so you don't see many make this change on the larger Stangs.

ok, I can certainly understand the thing with the larger engine bay. what is our hood at? like 6 feet or something? I know that in some of the older cars, people have to cut and stuff to fit in larger motors, whereas withteh 351 in mine, I can crawl up inside it to do work if need be. :). I think I had read somewhere that some of hte understeer had been fixed in our cars, but didnt know if that was why I dont ever see much about these conversions.

BTW, do you have any more pics of that 71-3 car with what looks like the newer mag wheels on it? I wanted to see what that would look like before I buy rims to make my car a rolling chassis to aid in the resto

p.s. have you any updated pics of your vert and how it is going? I saw the pic of your goal, GL, sharpest looking 71-3 vert I have seen. (did all the verts those years come withthe mach 1's hockey stick stripe?, or was it an option, I have seen it on quite a few)

No new pics but soon. Car is finished being painted this week. There wasn't a Mach One convertible, but you could order the hockey stick stripes as an option. Just couldn't get all the stripes and the Mach One nameplates. Most of my effort has been on my 67 while my 72 was at paint. I'll be back on 72 next week.

I wouldnt throw new rims on it while you are restoring it. It makes for one more thing to be overly carefull around. Keep whatever rims are on it, and then slap on the new rims as the last step practically.
