MINERAL GREY QUESTION???????

Does anyone know if ford has any car on their lots NOW that are using the same mineral grey that is being used on the mustang?? Every pic I see of the mineral grey 2005 looks different to me.Am I the only one??

Mineral Grey is not a new color. You can find it on 2001, 2002, and some 2003 Mustangs (some Cobras were available in Mineral Grey, some DSG ). There may be other years that had MG as well, but I can't say for sure. Do an autotrader search for grey mustangs in 2001 and you'll find *lots* of pictures. Might even find one locally you can take a peek at.

Is it the same mineral grey?? I hear that it is not the same color code and its not as tannish in color but more grey. Is that true? Im aware of the old mineral grey but some say different. AM I mistaken?

I would assume that Ford Mineral Gray is the same no matter what car it is on. Who are these people you are hearing this from? If they are just online people like us then I wouldn't put too much stock into it. I think I've seen a couple pics of the mineral gray '05 that weren't photoshopped and it did look slightly different but keep in mind that everything from the type of camera that was used (and its settings) to your monitor type and settings can affect how it looks. The only real way to know is to wait till the '05s come out and see for yourself.

As an owner of a 2001 Mineral Grey I can enlighten you on the confusion about Mineral Grey.

The color code has not changed to my knowledge. What has changed is the color of the paint.

In 2001 Mineral grey was a new color and it wasn't quite grey, it was called Shadow Grey on the pickups. Same color code on pickups and cars just differant name. These Mineral grey vehicles look tannish in bright light, more grey in moderate light. I guess they just didn't get the mix right for this first year and the color came out a little tan.

2002,2003 All these mineral grey vehicles are actually grey, atleast everyone Ive seen.

At some point they dropped the name "mineral grey" for "dark shadow grey" I have not verified the paint code to see if this is actually the same color renamed.

My bet the Mineral Grey on the 2005 since its the same color code will look just like the color on at a 2003 Mineral Grey. Now we just need to see if "Mineral Grey" and the 2004 grey color "dark shadow grey" have the same paint code. I would bet they do. Ford likes to change the names of the paint without changing the color, and sometimes like to change the color without changing the name.

It is a nice idea but I unfortunately have to burst a bubble here. A recent visit to a Ford dealership revealed a Mineral Grey in an 04 Explorer that had that same ugly tan color, not at all like the Dark Shadow Grey on the 04 Mustang. I also got to see Windveil Blue on an 04 Taurus, nice color.

I actually changed my order from Mineral grey to Sonic Blue because of my dissapointment in the color. If someone has some inside poop on what Ford is doing with Mineral Grey I sure would like to know but it is pretty obvious at this point that if you order this in an 05 Mustang you will driving a tan car.

For the Mustang, the "Mineral Grey" used up thru 2002, and the "Dark Shadow Grey" used in 2003 and 2004 are two completely different colors.

The "Dark Shadow Grey" actually has a metal flake quality to it.

Ive spoken with 2002 Stang owners who said their car was Mineral Grey, my car parked next to theirs was substantially more tan than theirs. I stand corrected Dark Shadow grey is definatly a differant color. And most likely the 2005 will look very tan, possibly not as tan as a 2001 Mineral Grey, but tan none the less. Unless Ford changes the color.

I too ordered a 05 GT in Sonic Blue, And my dealer told me the other day that ford has "picked up the order" he explained that means Ford has accepted the order into their system, which means it will be built, at some point in the underterminable future. Small victories, I guess.

MG is also metallic.

MG is definitely grey, not tan, with bronze/copper highlights when hit directly by the sun. Very nice color IMHO. DSG is nice, too, but I wouldn't get it as my first choice, because it's too pure of a grey for me. I like a little color .

fyi...eleanor was painted mineral grey according to a source at ford. It is quite distinguishable from ds grey when parked side by side.

Your posts have helped me out a lot. I wish it was the dark shadow grey. i don't like the way the tan color shows through in the light. the color is bland in my opinion

MG was only on early 2003 Cobras which were made during the 2002 model year. Once the 2003 model year started, the Cobras had to switch to DSG just like all the other 2003 Mustangs, and they stopped using MG.

DSG is more than just metallic. Like I said, it has a metal flake quality to it, which is quite different than just standard metallic paint.

When I first got mine, DSG always looked "dusty" to me even though it wasn't. Plus, I get falsely accused of having "water spots" even though there aren't any. This is all due to this metal flake quality which is in the paint.

Smart move, Fastback. Besides, silver and grey are colors for the Mercedes-Benz's and BMW's driven by aging suburban professionals. Car enthusiasts should try to break from that, in my humble opinion

If I can find a good-paying job within the next year, I'm going to try for that Legend Lime... or Redfire. Not sure which as of yet

Can anyone verify that the tk Mineral gray that is on the f-150 04-05 the same that will be on the 05 mustang. The color chip in the 05 brochure scares me,it looks to tan. But I think is wrong compared the vehicles I have seen with TK on it. Or if any one could post some good pics of their tk Mineral gray cars they have received thanks

acutally, the eleanor was a pewter gray, not mineral. if you have seen eleanor in person, which I have, you will notice it is very gray. no copper/bronze tones in it. dsg is alot closer to eleanor than mg.

This is a picture of my 2002 Mineral Grey GT. Most people think its looks gold or pewter. Nice color, it has the cool sparkly metal flakes in it that look great in the sun. This pic is a little dark, but you get the gist.

I hate to make my first post on this site a correction. Sorry about that...

The Eleanor Mustang in the recent version of the movie was built by Cinema Vehicle Services and it was painted pepper grey metallic which is Dupont Fleet 44490 and the stripes were black metallic, Dupont Fleet 44435.

I have been curious about the mineral grey color as well. From what I can tell, the color that was on the original concept as well as the pre-production show car is not mineral grey and is not available in the current palette for the Mustang. DSG is about the closest to it, but isn't offered either.
