Mini starter

Hey guys looking at mini starters. But do i want one for a 153/168 Tooth flywheel/flexplate or for a 164 tooth?

Flywheel Teeth refer to the size of the flywheel. Afterall the starter bolts up to the bellhousing.

157T = Manual Transmissions
164T = Automatic Transmissions

I am looking at the same thing this week. I have almost decided on the Ford 11000-A50 unit.

It appear the fit up shakes out this way.

The most common starters fit all 157 tooth flywheels and flexplates, and 164 tooth auto flexplates. The 164 tooth flywheels seem to take a starter with a different nose piece. I confirmed this a few years ago looking a the stick and auto replacement starters on the counter at Carquest.

Which one are you looking at?

I saw in a magazine that MSD just released a new line of Ministarters also.

I haven't purchased one yet, but will need to if I ever install my L/T's

dont the 94/95's coem from the factory with a mini starter? or a smaller starter at least? i thikn this would be a good choice if money is tight.

Yeah, starting in 1993 Ford started using a smaller version of the starter. I don't know if those are small enough to solve the heat soak issues associated with L/T headers though.

i have long tubes and the starter gets heat soaked. I am looking at a starter for a manual. So summit only shows 164 and 153/168 tooth ones. So i take it i want the 153/168 tooth ones?
