My buddies g/f's 96 V6 is misfiring but not sure why. They had it "diagnosed" and it gave them a "PO301" code. He said it was the number 6 cylinder. Any help is appreciated.

My car ('01) does the same thing. It only misfires when I'm driving at a steady 2500 RPM or so, and when I pull the code, it's always a cylinder 6 misfire. I've checked the plug, wire, and connections.

Dunno why it does that. I just try to avoid steady RPMS around 2500 and it seems to be happy.

Another possibility is the coil pack. They seem to need replacement at around 90 to 100k miles. Also check for any cracks in the coil pack housing.

i had the same problem with my car. it kept missing around 2500 RPM and game me P201. i replaced the plugs (they were fine), wires (they were fine), checked the resistance and replaced the coil pack (which was fine) and still couldn't figure out what it was. i sent some sea foam up the PCV valve one day, went to the back of my car to check the smog, then walked back to the front and noticed a trickle of exhaust coming out of my engine compartment. i determined there was a hole in the exhaust manifold gasket, replaced it, and the problem hasn't occured again.
