I got the converters welded-in thanks to a repair order. crapola It just doesnt sound the same and it is honestly depressing. I don't know whether I just got used to the way it was or what, but now its like I can't even hear it.

So what can I do now?? Will straight-piping the mufflers give me that same sound I had without the converters or will it sound like a POS? I even considered trading in my kidney for another bassani x-pipe with straight pipes welded in, and then just swapping the whole pipe.

Any suggestions?

most inspection shops told me "As long as it resembles a cat it passes, I don't care if it looks like a fodgers can painted to match, As long as there's something there in the shape of a cat it passes."

or you could just gut open the cat and put some straight pipe in there.

You cant swap a O/R mid pipe in? If its all welded up, you could cut it then put some sort of flange on it. maybe a 3 bolt deal like how headers bolt to exhaust pipes... I plan to just swap in my stock catted mid pipes for smog. With my Eibach Sportlines you'd need to jack the car up or put it on a lift to see theres no cats. I just did this mod less than a week ago and before the Flows Super 40's sounded nice, now they are nasty n LOUD!!!

Thats what I'm worried about for when I order my midpipe. I have the flowmaster catback with super 40's and yes they sound nice, but just not loud enough for me. I want to be legal, and I know the power difference is minimal between an O/R pipe and a midpipe with highflow cats, but I want the O/R sound. Emission laws suck! (For cars anyway)

yeah it sucks. The converters are only welded to the x-pipe though, not the pipes coming from the manifold. I orignally had the pipes so I could swap them, but when I put the cats in (clamped) it wasn't clean enough for the trooper who inspected it. I drive my car everyday to work, so I couldn't risk having the registration suspended.
I was thinking of swapping the magnapacks with some straight pipes or even bullets, but I just don't know if it will give me back the sound that I am looking for.
Cops just suck man, maybe if they spent less time harassing people over dumb SH** they could take care of the drug/crime problem in the Baltimore/Washington area.

Thats why I bought my bassani o/r x-pipe in the first place. For this very reason...but MD troopers suck and told me that it would not pass unless the cats were secured with a weld. I think the guy was just being a d*** but I needed it to keep my registration alive. Plus Im sure I am not the first guy to be pulled over after swapping the bassani straight pipes for the cats, so he probably knew what was going on.

Have you checked to see what the law actually says about how the cats are attached. Just b/c a cop told you that it had to be welded, doesn't mean he was right. I would find out what the law says about cats in MD. Good luck and let us know what you find out.

Maybe you should join up and set an example. Show them how it is done
