Paint and Body Missing windshield molding stud

Getting my windshield replaced tomorrow and I noticed I’m missing a stud for the molding clip on the top right corner. My first two pics are how it is on the other side, you can see there’s a stud a few inches from the corner. But in the other pics you can see on the drivers side there is no stud. I’ve grinding at the paint there and there’s no hole it’s all completely flush. Is it possible it just broke perfectly flush like that? It seems strange to me. Is there anything I can do or should I just install the molding without the clip in that one spot.

Well that stinks. I'm not sure you have much choice here...you could try some dry tac adhesive like barge cement in that spot maybe? Hopefully someone else will have a possible fix. I just don't see fixing that without welding/brazing a new stud on. This process will destroy the paint around it though.

I’m looking at the way the moldings clip in and there aren’t slots for the clips like there are in the rear glass molding. So really the clips can be anywhere as long as they’re the right height from the edge. I’ll try and measure the correct height and I could drill a new hole and rivet a clip in

On the other hand the side moldings overlap with the top molding so the side molding will probably hold that corner down that’s missing a clip anyway if I’m not able to fix it

Sounds like you have the wrong clips in front. They should lock into the stud like the rear glass. That's how mine is anyways...

Yea that’s what I have too. I was just thinking I could drill a new hole and use a rivet to install the clip. But now I was thinking maybe water could get in through there… I’ll probably just see how it installs with no clip there

So you mean drill a hole and then use a self tapping screw with thread sealer on the threads? Could I use teflon tape

Black Silicone

Tape it off first. Let it tac for 15 minutes but don't wait much longer than that to pull the tape.

I wouldn't worry about a single clip especially at the top, the moldings interlap, I have had plenty of cars missing one or two, some from rust some from just missing clips. Throw some extra butyl on the back of the trim in that spot should hold it fine as long as most clips are there, now if the odd ball long clips at the base snap those are an issue as they retain the cowl trim pieces and they love to come off at speed if they are missing. Both rear and quarters are held in with butyl so grab a few rolls if you plan on doing those later...

No teflon and no silicone.. Use some butyl, if you have a window setting kit use a piece of that or use some urethane WS sealant..

LMR used to sell these as replacement studs. Not sure why they stopped. I need new ones as well. I have more than one missing and yes the trim will stay on but depending on where it is, the trim might not sit exactly flush. Maybe if enough of us call them they will start sourcing them again.

So I tried installing it the other day. I bought a while ago the Daniel carpenter brand new windshield moldings and clips and threw away all my oem stuff…

None of it fit right, the Daniel carpenter moldings seemed like they weren’t long enough. I ended up buying some oem stuff on eBay cause I was really frustrated with the aftermarket pieces I bought.

Thankfully I kept the oem moldings for my rear hatch but I don’t have the clips. The aftermarket clips I bought have issues as well, some of them are too loose. Now I’m on the hunt for some oem rear hatch molding clips. If anyone has any please lmk!

I kept everything but those, they were complete bacon when I pulled them off 2 years ago

Daniel Carpenter stuff is hit or miss for sure. I used their cowl and lower windshield moldings, they fit pretty well. I don't think I have any spare clips. I can go double check...
