I was wondering if any fellow Stangers on here can help me out with state inspection laws in Missouri ? I'm only asking because I'm going to be moving to the Springfield, Mo. area within the next 6-8 months, and I want to know what will pass state inspection, and what will not. What are the emission laws like, and what about other things, like suspension mods ? I currently live in Va., and our laws aren't exactly "liberal", but they're not overly strict like California either.

Just wondering if anyone has any input. Thanks in advance.

I used to work with state inspections in Missouri. Before I moved 4 years ago, you had to have an inspection every 2 years if I remember correctly. We checked things like tires, brakes, brake lines, belts, hoses, tie rod ends, ball joints, mufflers, exhaust leaks, made sure CATS were there (or something that resembled them. But we did not use a sniffer to check the exhaust gases.

Pretty much, if you keep up with your routine maintenance and have some sort of cats, you will be ok. For the most part, the inspections were for the better, but some places would find stupid little things to try and make a quick buck in labor. Here in Florida (or at least my county) we don't have inspections, and I almost think we need them with some of the road hazards flying down the roads.

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it. So, do you guys think I could get by with dumps ? I've got a working set of cats, I was just thinking about converting my exhuast to dumps when I moved so I could make extra room for a panhard bar.

Depends on who inspects it. But no, you are not supposed to have any exhaust outlet under the car. Here is a good link to find out what you can and can't do -> http://sos.mo.gov/adrules/csr/current/11csr/11c50-2.pdf

Here is the part about where the exhaust should come out from page 28:
"(H) Tailpipe fails to discharge exhaust from
the rear or sides of the passenger and luggage
compartment on passenger vehicles;"
