ok, another blower query...

does anyone have any convincing info on which type of centrifugal to run? i really don't want to punch a hole in my oil pan, like with a paxton, or vortech. and since the powerdyne is cheaper from a few places, i'm really tempted to get one...or, if i were to win the lotto, i'd like an ATI...

opinions welcome and past experience needed....

I am currently running a Powerdyne BD11A set at 6#s on my car and really like it, especially for the price I got ($1450 for complete used kit (8,000 miles) with bypass valve, 24# injectors and 75mm Pro-M maf). It has been on the car for almost a year now without any problems. The only complaint I have about the Powerdyne is that it is an entry level supercharger (9psi max) so theres not much room to grow. For the money and ease of install they are hard to beat for an entry level supercharger.

lol, relax intense, i'm just trying to get feedback, i'm just not a huge fan of punching a hole into my oil pan, and getting little shreds of gear facings into my oil supply from my potential blower.

i was thinking about getting the 9psi base powerdyne kit, but is that just a pullied 6lb headunit, or is it a better impeller in the same case?

i do know that the XB-1A powerdyne fits in the same place as the BD-11...which is cool, but then I run into my same pet peeve of putting holes in my pan...

maybe i should just save up my pennies and shell out for an ATI P-1SC...6-20psi potential, and internal oiling

coo coo cachoo-lemme know how it runs if you get a chance :D

while we're on that note, i've been watching an auction for a powerdyne BD-11 that's pullied to 13psi...(?) is that just bs, or can you bring them up to that level? he's also got the AFM power pipe, which i've heard can increase your cfm and psi...any other takes on this one?

If you look at the pic on the website for the 86-93 kit, you'll see that they've got the A/C compressor short belted already. All you might need (if you've gotten rid of it already) is the A/C bracket with nothing connected to it. Did you reposition your power steering pump when you ditched the A/C?

Edit: I can't imagine ATI not having a replacement bracket of some sort regardless of the configuration. Might have to give em a call to find out for sure.

yeah,i got rid of it totally, and i'm still running power steering...i just don't like to clutter up the engine bay unnecessarily

oops, and no the power steering is still where it was before, with the march a/c delete kit

So long as your power sterring pump is in it's original location then I can't see it being too difficult to fab up a bracket in place of your missing A/C bracket. If you've got a machine shop nearby, you shouldn't have to pay too awful much to get em to cut you something out of aluminum. Check with ATI first though. I'd be willing to bet a dollar that they've encountered this before and probably already have a bracket on the shelf just for this.

tru tru...and i live right down the street from one of the best automotive machine shops in this town...:D

i'd like to think they would have something that pulls the blower a little closer to the engine, but, if not, i'm sure you're right in that they've run into that one before.

The only issue I could see with changing the blower position is that you'd also have to modify some portion of the pre-fabbed intercooler to accomodate that change. You'd need a slightly longer blower discharge tube going into the driver's side fenderwell. I don't recommend using a longer silicon coupling because they seem to have a tendancy to fail when you've got your foot through the radiator. The machine shop you mentioned should be able to elongate the plumbing going into the intercooler if necessary.

very good point...well, i'm gonna sleep on it...more than likely since i'll be on a limited budget for a while i'll probably pony up for the bd-11 pullied up to 9...or if enough people convince me, possible a s-trim vortech.....

i'm outty for the eve though-g'nite

I have a 6psi powerdyne on my car that i got new from summit fro 1599. I bought a bypass valve for 100. I then bought a ford lightning 90mm mass air, and 42lb. injectors for 340. I had it tuned on a Mustang Dyno with a SCT chip for 550. then i sold a bunch of used parts on ebay and made about 600 back. With my 4" pipe that i made for the inlet the blower makes a full 6psi of boost at 5800 rpm. I am really happy with my powerdyne and my brother ran his BD-11 with an 11 pound pulley on it and the only thing that happend was the internal belt broke after about a year. He had it upgraded to the kevlar belt that is now in all BD-11a chargers and and had the car for 4 more years with no problems. Oh by the way, the shop that tuned his car was able to make 480 rwhp with the 11psi pulley on a stock short block, ported and polished gt-40 iron heads, lunati cam, gt-40 intake and the usual bolt ons. I hear the most horror stories about ATI blowers.

I've always heard it more about the powerdynes. The mid to upper level prochargers are some mean horsepower beasts. I think it was the d1sc ??? that had the oil seal problem awhile back. That's about it I think.

The problems that I've heard over and over again with the ATIs is the tuning area, not the operation of the blower. Probably not a good kit for a rookie that doesn't know his/her way around a car very well. Installing the kit without a tune has been met with a fair amount of frusteration.
