Mobil 1 0w-20 at Wal-Mart now

I'm currently running 5w-20 now. Any benifit to the 0w-20 or should i just stay with what im using?

no stick with 5w20 (use in the summer) or 5w30 (use in the winter).

Mobil 1 synthetic is for teh win!

isnt 5w30 a heavy weight oil? if it is heavier why would you want to use heavy in the winter? Wouldnt it make more sense to run heaveir oil in the summer when its hot and the oil temps are higher?

The 0w-20 will be more fluid at freezing temps than 5w-20, but the viscosity of both will be the same at operating temp. Make sense? Wouldnt hurt to run the 0w-20 if its the same price, but I doubt there is much real world difference.

You are correct.

I'd run the thicker in the summer when it's gonna get hotter and thin out more and the thinner on the winter when it tends to keep it's consistancy better.

As far as the 0W20...we have been running 0W40 in the newer Porsches for a few years now and I swear it's like pouring beer from a quart bottle.

Correct, and if you run too thin of oil in the hot summer months you run the risk of loosing oil pressure.

Just what I thought.

I about used some 5w-20 then realized that it calls for 5w-30... Only reason I think I grabbed to 20 is cause they come in one 5 quart jug. That is freakin sweet, but oh well. But it gets pretty hot during the summer, dont want to run a thin oil then.

At my old shop (independent German) we always put 15W40 in all the cars. We would get the older water cooled VWs in the dead of summer rolling in with the oil lights flashing like crazy. 9 times out of 10 they usually had their oil changed at Jiffy Lube where they put in 10W30. We'd drain it out and put the thicker stuff in and problem solved. That sold me on using what the manufacturer specs say...

To be honest, I've run Mobil 1 synthetic 5w20 and Motorcraft 5w20, and I prefer the motorcraft.

I just haven't noticed any difference. I haven't seen any reason to spend the extra money. Although, once my PI swap and comp cams are all install and the car is back on the road, I might switch to Mobil 1.

Ok. I did found some difference between the motorcraft and the mobil, especially approaching the 3000 miles change, but well, it may be a placebo effect or more peace of mind...

Royal Purple 5w30. I got it for the same price as the mobile 1. Its sweet.

The only way your going to see a difference from one oil to another is by sending in a sample to a lab and getting an used oil analysis.

Unless that Motorcraft is rebottled Mobil 1, theres no way its better or even just as good.
