Everyone, I have an 03 GT with 31,000 miles on it and I've been using Mobil 1 5W-30 with the Motorcraft filter since the first oil change. I was thinking of switching to the 5W-20 extended but would like some feedback before I change.

Stick with what you have been using and extend your drain interval.
I change mine once a year (12000 miles) with a filter change and top off @6 months.
I have been doing this for 10 yrs and the engine is spotless, no issues at all.

I change the oil every 3000 miles or 3 months now thought I'd try 6/6 with the extended.
If you want to start playing the "Extended" oil change interval game I'd seriously consider sending oil samples in to a reputable laboratory like Blackstone at every oil change. This is just to ensure the TBN's are holding up in the oil. The lab will tell you how much of the additives in the oil are depleted and will even recommend a new interval based on the test results.

I have been using the same as you: Mobil 1 synthetic 5w30, Motor Craft Oil Filter. I do my oil changes roughly every 5,000 miles. At 92,000 miles, I haven't had any issues with my engine, and I run her hard. I do believe the Mobil 1 is a good oil.

I think I could probably go longer without any problems but I guess I just do the 3k-5k oil change for piece of mind.

The M1EP is a good oil. You could easily make >8k OCI's on it. I'd say try a run out and see what you think of it.

I'm a Castrol Full Synthetic man myself. Hell, if it's good enough to put in Jonh Force's 7,000hp+ motor, my little motor should be fine.

Thought about going to Royal Purple though....Good Stuff...

the oil that john force uses isnt available off the shelf and looks more like gear oil when going into the motor.

the only Castrol Syntec i would use would be the Euro-Spec 0w30 or BMW spec 10w60(not in a mod motor).

i use Mobil 1 5w30 with a FL-820S in my mustang and German Castrol 0w30 with a motorcraft fl-820S i my grand marquis.

Would you like to tell us why you're using a 0w-30 in the Mercury? Doesn't it call for 5w-20 or some thing along those lines?

the mercury is a 2000, so it was spec'd for 5w30. the GC is slightly thinner when cold so on initial startup will get to the cams faster. also this particular oil is known for being on the thicker side of 30wt. the VOAs and UOAs ive read on the oil are very good.

I would just stick with the oil you are running now. If you only have 31K and change it every spring, spending extra money for the "extended life" wont do much for you except cost a dollar more a qt.
