About 10,000 miles ago i started running mobil one synthetics. According to mobil they say that you can run the oil for 1 year or 15,000 miles. I checked out their web site and they didnt say anything about the oil filter change intervals. So I was wondering should i change the filter every 3,000 miles or can I run it for 15,000 miles?

max I'll go is 5k and thats only in those situations where money is tight and I have to decide between an oil change and a case of beer.... beer always wins

3k is the norm though for my steed.

I run a dual blend, but it doesn't really matter what you run. For no nonsense, proven reliability, 3k is the magic number. Sure the oil COULD possibly last all year or 15k miles, but why risk it? Oils not that expensive.

5 quarts of Mobil 1 synthetic at Wally World is only 26 bux. That and a Motorcraft filter every 3k to 4.5k miles (max) for me.

Just think what the oil looks like at 4k miles when you change it. It isn't pretty, so imagine what it would look like at 10k miles.
:stupid: :Word:

Synthetic oil definatly lasts longer due to it's higher viscosity.
Huh? I'm not sure I understand what you are stating here? How can a synthetic 10W30 have a higher viscosity than a 10W30 conventional oil.

As for the question from parkgoons... if you are running a standard paper filter like the stock Motorcraft unit change it every 3000, if you are running a synthetic oil filter (like the Mobil 1) change it every 5000 miles.

Personally I'm not a big fan of the extended oil change intervals unless you are willing to utilize a lab like Blackstone to perform an analysis on the TBN (total base number) at each change. Oil & filters are the life blood of an engine and changing them religiously will extend the logevity of a motor more than any other periodic maintenance an owner can perform. $30 or so every 3000 miles is nothing.

U.M.

3-5k miles for me, even if I use their extended life oil. and a 6 quart case is about $23 from sams club/costco, and walmart is carrying motorcraft filters for $3 a pop.

$30 + 20 minutes of your time = happy car :).

I average it

I just changed mine today. I run Mobil1 full synth, with a mobil 1 filter. I change mine every 4000. Autozone sells Mobil 1 for $5.79/quart. The filter was $9.99. I have a Cobra so it takes 6-6 1/2 quarts to top it off. So that is about $55-60 every oil change. So I don't break my bank as bad, I average between 3k and 5k, and change my filter every time.

For the people who put synthetic in and change it every 3k honestly I think in a way you are wasting your money. Synthetics do get dirty yes just like conventional oil, but the advantage is they dont break down like conventional oil does and thats why you can run them for longer intervals. Just change the filter every 3k miles. I even remember reading on the mobil site that they're oil can be used for the advertised intervals, however they do recommend changing the filter regularly.

I have been changing my synthetic oil once a year with a filter change at 6 months for the past 11 years.
Been supercharged for the last 5.
No it will not look like molasses, no it will not ruin your engine.
I installed ported heads 6 months ago and everything is perfect, the bores are great with no wear ridge.
There is zero sludge or varnish on the engine.
I use 2qts of oil between changes including the 1/2 qt I use to replace what the filter change looses.
The 3000 mile oil change interval is a crock of **** invented by oil change companies to remove money from your wallet, don't fall for the hype.
