I was wondering if any of you guys had modified the catted X-pipe by cutting out the cats, and fabricating a flanged straight pipe that would allow you to interchange the pipes and cats when you needed to? I have thought it thru and thought it would be pretty easy. Anything I am not seeing here?

The obvious problem that I would be worried about is keeping it from leaking.. If you could keep it from leaking after swapping it out then it would be fine. Usually cheaper to just buy a stock midpipe from a junkyard or your old one if you have it and swap that in instead.

i had this done on my old 2.3 ranger, i paid someone 40 bucks to cut off my cat, than drove to a muffler shop that welded in a straight pipe for 20 bucks. You just have to find a shop willing to do it.

I just wanted the luxury of being able to slip the cats back on if the sniffer cops start testing in my area, or if for some reason I needed to quiet the car back down for some unknown reason. I don't think I would want to change it to an off-road X permanately after spending almost $400 on it, ya know what I mean.
