Modified Mustangs & Fords TCI Coyote install

Today we will be starting the install of the new TCI front suspension for a Coyote for the magazine project car. This is what we are starting with.

I won't be able to give you a lot of details you will have to follow along in the magazine.

This afternoon we removed the front end sheetmetal and front suspension.

Before we can remove the shock towers and start the TCI install we have some rust to repair.

We found more rust we need to fix before we can cut out the shock towers.

After looking it over we found rust and patches in the shock towers and frame rails so we decided to replace the frame rails.

It is a good thing we removed the frame rails the left side was never welded to the floor pan and also had rust holes in it.

Now you have my interest peaked for sure, I want to see how you build the front frame from that point on.

A few more pictures. We have been working on other projects and waiting for the Speedway Engineering rear end to be finished.

We haven't done anything to straighten out the firewall until we see how the engine fits

We had already cut out the transmission tunnel and yesterday Steve brought the engine and trans.

There has been a lot of talk how the TCI products don't fit but we had no problem. The motor mounts that bolt to the block are slotted and we installed them the as far forward as we could to set the engine back. The mounts were tighten on the block and it was a tight fit with the shifter clearing the cutout in the firewall and the pan clearing the radiator support but we got it in. It went in on the first try. The tranny tunnel needs to be trimmed a little more but it does not hit. The bolts went into the motor mounts with no problems and we have pan clearance at the crossmember and rack.

the problem these guys are having with the fitting isn't with the TCI product it is the car it's self .no one wants to believe that the car they have is slightly out of shape .50 some odd years and rough roads have taken there toll on them ,twisting ,sagging and even cocking the frame structures.i have seen a lot of twisted cars and most cars have some. i know TCI products are jig welded so the product is very consistant .most mustangs are going to need some amount of tweeking and thats just a fact every one has to deal with looking very nice by the way

I have a question. I am working on a similar project to this but I am installing a supercharged 4.6 DOHC. I also have the TCI IFS kit. I must also replace frame rails ,aprons ect. How do you get everything lined back up and in the right location?

We even had my granddaughter helping remove the lead from the factory seam.



We added sill bars to stiffen the body

You have to do a lot of measuring before you take it apart and make sure the car is level.

+ 1 on getting it level.it simply has to be or nothing will fit right.and keep checking as you go just encase you have knocked it out of level. wright your measurements down end length ,height,width, the more measurements the better
