Modifying your hood scoop.

Has anyone ever considered custom fabricating their hood scoop to actually benefit their car. I thought about removing the honeycomb part, and sawing a hole in the hood. I was hoping thaat this would fill my under hood area with cooler air. I have always struggled with the thought of cosmetics that dont benefit the performance of a vehicle, so I want my scoop to function as a performance peice as well. Does this seem feaseable or am I just crazy? :shrug:
 
If you keep the original location of the air filter, a simple hole in your hood under the hood scoop won't do you much good. You need a way to route it to the air filter.

Do NOT do this.

#1 It will have no performance benefit on the car it doesn't have a Carburetor unless the air is directly over the intake filter even then :shrug:

#2 Most importantly i knew someone who did something like this on the 2001 type body style and you get a lot of rain water going inside the scoop that way. Not a good idea to have water going in/on the engine bay and/or on your electrical components.

In the long run its not worth it and money/time spent else where. :nice:
 
classic design concepts..... shaker hood with scoop... sweet look and slight improvement in power but most likely not noticable.... but FUNCTIONAL

So, Basically, the CDC Shaker offers no REAL performance gain?

If so, that sucks as it looks really good.

Marginal gain, perhaps a couple of extra ponies, but the look of a real shaker hood scoop that moves when the engine torques is probably worth it for all those that have one.

I wouldn't mind having one myself! :)

The other thing I was curious about, wouldn't the design of the "Shaker" engine base trap engine heat? :shrug:
 
I kinda disagree, 1 inserting forced airflow will reduce engine comprtment heat 2 inserting a drip rail will eliminated water problems 3 don't have to cut out center section. Using a small drill bit inbetween the webbing will accomplish this as well as help maintain rigidity .
