mods that are cheap and effective

i have a 94 gt with just exhaust, k&n air filter, and computer chip, but it still isnt that fast, i was wondering the best methods of improving my car's performance without spending an arm and a leg...thanks

gears - 180-200 + 300 install
aluminum pulleys - 100
short throw shifter - 200
off road midpipe - 160ish

those are probably the best for the cheapest. Not to be a dick but if you use the search feature for this forum there are infinite plus 1 threads with this topic / content.

Well, if your definition of fast means running 12's, you are going to have to drop some cash unless you spray nitrous, but that can still be expensive. Is you car an auto or a 5-speed? If its an auto, I can definitely sympathize with you on the "slowness" factor. I agree with Mustangless saying gears are my best bang for the buck, but if that's not you, switch out your intake to an aftermarket GT-40 style, Edelbrock, or Trick Flow. All are good brands and all give a decent SOTP kick. For a more basic bolt on, go with UD pulleys which will pick up a few ponies. Let us know a little more about your car (tranny included), what your budget is, and what your goals are as far as what your idea of "fast" is, then people can better recommend parts to give you a good bang for the buck.

I dont know how much is "cheap" to you, but if you got $500 to spend, I would agree with Gears and pulleys. Both are proven time and time again.. You wont gain HP with the gears, but you will feel them more thant the pulleys.

When I got mine in 1996, It felt so great that I thought I could beat Vipers. (honestly, I knew I couldnt, but I felt like I could)

Gears first then IMHO, for the next best bang for the buck its a 50 50 kinda deal on which gives the most gain.

pulleys or mid pipe.

After that I do an intake.

btw ...... IMHO, the worst bang for the buck spent is a catback. Others that don't do a lot are tb, maf, and rockers.

When my car was close to stock I did a home made cai and I could tell a difference. About the same as pulleys and it can be made for just a few bux.

thanks for all the help guys...my car is a five speed...my definition of "fast" is mid 14's or so, it doesnt have to tear up the strip, but i just want a little more punch...i was thinking gears and pulleys and maybe an intake myself, but i was just wondering what everybody with these things done to their cars actually thought...sorry for posting another one of these threads...i am new i havent looked through all of them yet to be honest

ps...i forgot to mention my budget, i would like to spend around five hundred give or take...and another thing, my car has some miles on it (150 K), i take good care of it and it still runs great, but does anyone think i should consider rebuilding, i honestly dont want another car, it still looks great and there is nothing wrong with it

I agree 100%. Give it a FULL tune-up, and grap a fenderwell CAI off ebay for $45 or make one.

So after you spend a couple bucks on the tune-up stuff, get FMS 3:73's and have them professionally installed. You will be like this guy after ->

Gears first and then if your going to run stock E7 or GT40 heads, port the lower intake - see the site in my sig for lots of info on porting the stock intake.

"Others that don't do a lot are tb" Disagree in my case after my cam and stuff the TB made all the difference in the world. Maybe it was the bottle-neck. Going with the Ford Racing 65mm was night and day. The new electronics didn't hurt either.

GEARS GEARS GEARS. K&N panel filter doesn't give you any HP either.
