"2006 = 2005 Forum Members Please Read
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have noticed that several new 2006 owners have posted some basic questions which have received very few responses. I do not want new SN S197 owners to think this place is void of good knowledge, so I would like to point something out.

Most of the questions you new 2006 owners are posting have been answered, in depth, by those of us who own junky old 2005s. You may have better luck if you try a search first. Things like exhaust, throttle lag, wheel/tire sizes, tuners, etc all have some pretty in depth threads. If your specific question is not answered in one of those threads, or you are looking for more current info, you may want to start by posting in an existing thread first. This will not only bring that thread back to the top, but also send an e-mail to those who participated in the thread originally and have e-mail notification on. You have a much greater chance of a response using this method. People are less likely to repeat their post in multiple threads, but they may be willing to post additional, or more current info.

This method is used quite sucessfully in another forum I am part of. I really think it would help even more here."

I think that that's a great idea.

Then I see the GT v's WRX thread is locked for being "dead", with Tyler throwing in the "flogging a dead horse" gif. Granted, for some people that thread had lost its way, but I think GP and 300BHP's war was, aside from being heated, very informative (in fact, probably some of the best tech stuff posted anywhere).

Even though for some, that thread was dead, the 05+ v's WRX debate will be one a lot of new members will have some interest in (and even some not-so-new members, as evidenced by the new - sensible - posts on the thread).

So, my question is, what message are we sending here to new members? Resurrect a thread and be berated for doing so? Or, don't bring back a thread which some might take umbrage at (cos they can't just not read it)?

Let's keep apples in the apple barrel and oranges in the orange barrel.

The 2005=2006 thread was specific to the Tech section. My intent is to keep information relevant to a topic grouped together so that new people can find answers, and old answers can be updated. People will only answer the "which axleback is best" question so many times before they quit responding. I come fromt the Classics section and can't tell you how many times the "What do I need to do a V8 swap" questions has been asked.

The 05 vs WRX thread lives here in talk and I believe the new Talk mod closed it due to some feeling about street racing.

So, to answer your question: In the Tech section resurrect an existing thread and add to it. in Talk....ask the new Moderator

Ok, but I don't think it's a stretch to think that moderator directives in one area will not be retained when switching to another. I also think your idea was a good one (resurrection), but I suppose you're correct and we should honor the wishes of the Talk mods. Can't wait for the new "My new Mustang v's my old M3" and "Zaino!" threads.

As for closing it due to personal opinion, well, that's different and up to each mod, I suppose.

Well, I agree with your post in some situations.

A search would be great. BUT when a new member goes through 49 pages of threads and brings up an old one that is fine. He is trying to learn. In a polite manner you could suggest doing a search. There are lots of ads and other options on this board and the search may be been lost in his mind at the time to learn valuable information.

As for the 05 v WRX thread, I told you all that there will be NO street racing thread! As soon as he said "from a 40 mph Roll we" that is all that I read!

I will not and my stance will not change in time soon allow those threads!

I will give a warning to that individual for it not to happen again!

If you see a problem with that I am sorry. I have seen too many young, stupid people kill innocent families due to street racing.

Thanks,

Travis aka Lsred aka Moderator

Not condoning street racing as I am definitely against it, but oh the power of censorship. That is all I will say about that... Not sure how I feel about the rest of the topic...

n.
  1. A person authorized to examine books, films, or other material and to remove or suppress what is considered morally, politically, or otherwise objectionable.
  2. An official, as in the armed forces, who examines personal mail and official dispatches to remove information considered secret or a risk to security.
  3. One that condemns or censures.
  4. One of two officials in ancient Rome responsible for taking the public census and supervising public behavior and morals.
  5. Psychology. The agent in the unconscious that is responsible for censorship.
Censorship = The process of censoring.
Censoring = The act of censor.
Censor is this case is likely #1, but close to the others as well...

Public or private site, it is still censoring in my book and apparently another book utilized by many... Justified in any way is still censoring...

Not trying to say that is wrong, just saying it is the act of deeming "what is considered morally, politically, or otherwise objectionable" for the populace of stangnet.com in this case. Which is your prerogative... Just not agreed to in my mindset, which is my prerogative...

Holy carp! I erred when I said the wrx thread was locked due to it being dead - it appears it was locked due to content (street racing).

My post was about sending mixed messages to new users - in Tech they're supposed to resurrect old threads, yet in Talk, everyone jumps up and down if an old thread is brought back, like it's some personal affront to them.

My bad.

ps, interesting to see the Corvette driver being charged with ms. Did he clip the bike? Or are we now to the point where we need to change an old saying to "If someone asks you to jump off a bridge - have them arrested for attempted manslaughter!".

pps, anyone else (who read the posted article) find it a little tasteless that the ad around which the article was written was for the Power Chevrolet dealership group?

Censorship isn't ideal, but it is necessary. There's a time and place for everything. Upon signing up for this site, Stangnet tells you that it does not advocate or allow talk of street racing on the boards. So this obviously is not the time or place for that talk. Plenty of sites do welcome it, tho.

Don't get me wrong, I highly agree with the stance Stangnet may take on street racing and commend them for that stance. Just saying censorship is a powerful thing in that it can create polar extremes to a subject. Just my humble opinion.

Street racing should not be tolerated and racing should be left to professional courses and areas that help mitigate the dangers inherent.
