My parents just bought me a 2003 Mustang GT. What are good and simple things I can buy that will increase horsepower? I don't know whether to get Flowmaster 40 series or the super 40 mufflers. And I want to get a cold air intake I just don't know which one is the best.

Nice parents :nice: you should thank them everyday :nice:

With exhaust, just go for sound. You wont gain much power from any catback, so just find one you like the sound of. The real power gains from exhaust come from midpipes and long tube headers. you can listen to various mustang exhaust clips at www.mustangexhaust.com I'd suggest hooking up w/ a local stang club and listening to peoples cars in person though to find a sound you like.
If you've decided on Flows, get the 40 series.

As for cold air, they're all crap :rlaugh: just buy one that you thinks looks the best :rlaugh: I personally have the C&L TrueFlow inlet tube. i bought it only for the looks. One of the best 'performing' CAIs seems to be the JLT intakes though.

just get a generic cold air intake, and a 70 mm throttle body and plenum, buy an h pipe or some other form of a midpipe instead of welding in some mufflers. and weld in some magnaflows if you want mufflers. everyone and their brother has flows, and they sound good, but get something different.

Pretty much says it all. You are not going to get any noticable power differnce with an exhaust(unless headers all the way back) or CAI. Those you pretty much go for what you like. There are so many different exhaust combos that sound diiferent. Like streetstang03 said. Try to find some local guys and listen to what they have to help you pick but if your set on the flows then go for it. Welcome to the club :nice:

mods:

4.10 gears
new wheels (18's)
catback kit of your choice (magnaflow or flowmaster are decently priced! major discount on magnaflow through partshopper. check the parts discount section of stangnet for the code)
short throw shifter (MGW!!)
lowering springs

i wouldnt worry a ton about CAI right now. just get those things out of the way. dont forget to get some good tires. i have always liked Nitto 555 Extreme's.

Get an O/R H pipe, Flowmaster American Thunder cat back. Get a Cold Air Intake so you can hear the motor sucking in air. Then throw in 4.10's. Add some springs and shocks/struts, rear lower control arms and subframe connectors. Then add 13" brakes so you can stop it, over and over. Oh yeah... dont forget the MGW shifter!! :nice:

Step 1: K&N Filter ($40)
Step 2: Remove Air Silencer on filter housing (Free)
Step 3: Flowmaster 40 Series ($300, including install)

That's what I had for the first 2 years I had my car & they satisfied me until I had the cash to throw at other things. You can also get a good handheld tuner for $300-400...

You should also look at your warranty (if your car is still covered) to see what you can do without voiding it.

Welcome to the forums man!
I have just about done it all bolton wise, and I have my "list" of things I reccomed to do first. :D

In order, these are:

ANY aftermarket shifter (I have a pro 5.0 W/ a steeda triax handle...LOVE IT)

Handhelp tuner (Xcal by SCT is what you want)

A midpipe (I would go SLP in your case...your choice of catted or not)

Then last but not least, GEARS. (3.73-4.10..I have 3.73s and love em)

Now the reason I put the tuner up before the mid pipe and gears, is because A. if you go with no cats on the SLP X pipe, the tuner can turn OFF the rear sensors....other wise your check engine light will come on.
B. because after marke gears throw off your speedometer...you can use the tuner to tell the computer that it has a certain gear ratio, and it will fix the speedometer.

Now as far as everything else I just cant say, until you say exactly what you want for the car in the future. Nothing worse than having excess parts....

and I wouldnt do weldin mufflers unless you just want to. You can buy a magnaflow catback on partshopper.com with the promo code "magna454" I think, for $350. By the time you buy two mufflers and pay the shop, its going to be about the same. You will gain 1-2 HP with weldins, vs 6-8 with the catback.

Good luck :nice: .
